They even gave up 27 pts to Wofford, in the 2 wins against VT the first game they only gave up 3 pts and the second game for the championship they gave up 10. We open the season with NC State so I would have to say if UT hires Steele after last nights performance, fan support will take a big hit.

By the way, I keep seeing people say that Hart has Kirby Smart in his back pocket. They act like Hart could pull Smart from Alabama anytime he wants. I know Hart came from Bama before UT but is there any truth to this or what?

I wasn't crazy about Steele being our choice to begin with but after the couple beat downs (sorta) he was given this year and then that debacle last night...I do not want the Vols to hire him.

Sure he's a good this and a good that and one of our own and all BUT not the guy we need.

I'd take Shannon in a heartbeat over Steele...and would have BEFORE last nights game as well. :good!:

Clemson's message board is on fire right now. Calling for him to be fired. There is a thread that says they want Randy Shannon or Everett Withers. Its not looking good for them or us. Fans calling for his head may make it easier for him to jump ship over here. If we don't get Randy Shannon, someone else will and whoever gets him will have a good DC mind and recruiter in the south. I'm almost 100% positive we screw this up big time. Hope I'm wrong. Oh and for you peeps that are to lazy to google and find out who Everett Withers is, he was on the staff at NC and now has been hired by Urban at Ohio St. Your welcome.

Steele's a good coach and a good recruiter. Aside from Thompson and Branch, his defense sucks.

A lot of you guys were burying Chavis after giving up 59 to Florida back in 2007 (with 4 first round picks on his defense, mind you) and now he's right back on top, leading the #1 D in the country into the BCS title game.

I'm not saying 70 points is excusable, but it's a mistake to think it's anything more than an aberration.

Look at our 97 neb game. Then see 1998.

But you have to admit from a pr perspective hireing coach Steele right now would be a nightmare.

IDK, it was one game but still 70 pts? Could be Clemson just did want to be in that game though. Bama laid an egg a few years ago against Utah St when they had the better team.

Its not just that one game. Their defense hasn't exactly been good all year. Without that high powered offense they are a 500 team. Would not be surprised if he is canned sometime today.

Clemson's D has been awful all year, this performance just showed how bad they really are. There is plenty of talent there, too. No way this guy is the answer.

Certainly wasn't a good showing for Clemson D last night, if we do hire Steele it will be looked at as a one foot out the door effort. I just think a mediocre defense was exposed last night. Whether or not we hire Steele the fact remains we have little talent or speed in the secondary, no matter who we bring in.

Agreed. Doesn't matter if he's actually a great coach. That hire would make UT a laughing stock and raise the ire of the fans to a new level.

Clemson usually has a lot of talent. It is the reason why they are constantly mocked when they choke.

I agree but the stigma will still be there. A good recruiter and putting together a good game plan and implementing it are two very different things.

Steele has been the DC at two schools. Alabama and Clemson. But WE ALL know that he wasn't the master mind behind the defense at Alabama. Saban was the DC just not on paper. And its now evident that he cant coach defense AT ALL in Clemson. Check the message boards over at Clemson. They dont like him. Oh and another thing. Steel cant seem to stay put at one place more than 2 or 3 years. The guy bounces around whenever another opportunity presents it's self. Yes he may have TN ties, but who gives a crap!!!! Money is money and he, just like everybody else will move around and do whats best for him and his family.

You want mutiny and upheaval? Hire Steele and watch this fan base divide like the red sea. CDD will get more than burnt matrices and Hart's approval rating will make MH look like Baby Jesus.

is he recruiting these studs to play on defense? If so where were they last night and the rest of the season? He may can recruit, but he sure as hell cant coach them up. I bet I could have asked Madden off Xbox 360 to pick the plays for me and have done a better job.
