Did Butch slip up during press conference?

CBJ took the job when no other big name coach would put his precious reputation on the line, deliver or be exposed. He was our best option at the time and Knoxville was his. He showed some improvement but not enough by a longshot and way too slow, I’m sure he did his best. That said, he failed us in big game, close games, and must win games. For that in the SEC with his salary his time is up. Let him earn his money till after Vandy, quietly painlessly put him out the door with his walking papers. In the mean time hire a proven experienced nationally known head coach that can compete for SEC titles, get out the checkbook it isn’t that difficult.

It is imperative to Butch to have those players back for the last game. He made a deal with Currie the Gambler..

1) Win his last 2 games and walk with full package. Lost to KY, this one is out.
2) Win one of two and he gets 50% of the package. Needs to win Southern Miss game.
3) Lose last two games and he walks with a hand shake. Gonna hurt the wallet.

I know you're writing this tongue(keyboard?) in cheek. But, this does make me wonder why so many think that Butch would be negotiating a possible reduction of his buyout clause. Why on God's green earth would Jones' put $4-5 million or so at risk to make a deal like that? It has no benefit for him.

Now, negotiating a new set of buyout terms to keep from getting fired and to get another year, I totally get. Unfortunately for Butch, I believe that ship has sailed. Even if CBJ miraculously ran the table for the last four, this season has been a disaster. Most every fan has tapped out that I know.

Who knows, maybe if 'Currie" doesn't see himself landing the right hire this cycle, got $9-10 mil off the buyout, he might roll with Butch for another season. And kept his feelers out there to increase the chance of landing a great fit.

IDK, just trying to put myself in the thought process of an AD.

He wanted to end his Career here at Tennessee on a high note (with a win). Before he gets fired, that way the resume looks better and he gets a new coaching gig soon, so UT doesn't have to chunk out the full buyout.

You always got to hope deep down that Currie has steps 1-3 all lined up 6 weeks prior to Early signing day.

1. Fire CBJ and Scott, maybe Wells or Thigpen. (Sunday)
2. Name interim HC and Assistants. Might involve Striping as HC or DL. (Sunday)
3. Name Permanent Coach, effective date (immediate, after season, after bowl game) and determine how many Assistants will stay on with new ball coach. (Monday)

Bonus: Arrange bloody chickens or horse heads to be quietly placed in the beds of Saban, Smart, Muschamp, Mason and new Florida Coaches bed! Just a little way of sayin good morning and things are gonna be different around here fellas!

Here's what he said, judge for yourself:

"In terms of the suspensions, by rule, is uh, both individuals, that's only an in-game, so it does not carry over to the final game. But again, we have certain standards..."

I suppose he meant to say "next," but did indeed say "final."
