(AP) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A large markerboard was placed near Tennessee's indoor practice field this week with the words "Tennessee quit last year" scrawled across it.
It was an accusation made after Florida's 59-20 romp over the Vols last season and repeated again this week by Gators linebacker Brandon Spikes.
Says Tennessee tailback Arian Foster: "I'm not a quitter and my teammates are not quitters."
The Vols and Gators play Saturday in Knoxville. Florida has won three straight in the series.

Sadly, it won't make a difference...Florida is the better team this year.

Fulmer was on a local radio show yesturday and got snippy with one of the talk show host saying "people don't remember that it was a close and good game for 3 quarters...people don't mention that"

No kidding Phil, we don't mention it because it takes 4 quarters to win...

As I recollect, it was close in score through the first half, though it appeared that Florida was about to unleash a can of whupass, and eventually did.

Moral victories suck.

I agree with Phil. We were in good position last year until the Ainge/Foster debacle. I don't think Phil's using it as an excuse. The gators and their fans act like the final score told the whole story of that game it didn't. We were able to stay close even with a lot of adversity in that game. The D played well until the O turned the ball over and kept putting them back on the field. We played with them for 3 quarters in the swamp with worse depth and more injuries.

Your memory is not so good then. It was anybody's game until the 3rd quarter. We had just stopped you guys and our offense had been clicking until the Ainge/Foster fumble. The only thing that allowed that whooping to happen was our offense's inability to keep our D off the field and that we had to give up our running game after the fumble.

When was that fumble in the third quarter? I thought it was fairly early.

UAB was in the game last weekend in the 3rd quarter!

If we're ahead this year at the end of the 1st half, let's quit and go home.

2007 results

22 TENN (1-2) 3 10 7 0 20
#5 FLA (3-0) 14 14 7 24 59

1st Florida by 11
2nd Florida by 15
3rd Florida by 15
4th Florida by 39

Sorry but losing by at least two touchdowns for 3/4 of the game is not close

The fumble happened with just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd qtr and started a run of 31 unanswered points to include a TD with just over 1 minute left in the game. Tebow was in the game until about the 5 minute mark of the 4th qtr and led the drive that put them up 52-20 at around that point.

I've said it before... even though I dislike Meyer he did what you have to do in the modern game when you have a good team down. Make the point spread as great as possible to impress pollsters and recruits. Had the game been less than a 20 pt margin, UT would have probably been ranked ahead of UF and considered the better team after the UGA game... so Meyer's calculation was correct. Only a bowl loss by UF put UT ahead of them in the polls.

But Gators sometimes try to claim that he made no attempt to run the score up- he plainly did.

Yeah after the Eric Berry TD, Tenn forced a Florida punt with the score being 28-20 Fla. Then the Ainge/Foster fumble occurred (supposedly due to Ainge's pinkey). After Florida returned that fumble for a TD, it was over.

Florida was a better team last year, no doubt. But Tennessee hung in there long enough than people give them credit for.

All the fumble did was just made Florida's beat down of us look even worse. It was not anyone's game. Nor was it anyone's game after the Pick 6. It was 28-13 at halftime and the rout was already on.

This entire discussion is absolutely bizzare. Are Vol fans actually trying to justify one of the worst beatdowns in recent Vols history by making the argument that the team played good for two and half quarters? The world really has turned upside down.

You have to run up the score nowadays. We all know what "playing not to lose" gets us. If you don't have a 3 or 4 touchdown lead in the SEC, then the game is not "in the bag". I wish we would "run up the score" as often as possible. We all know what those 2 to 3 touchdown comeback losses feel like!!!

Watch it. You know very well if we score on our first possession there will be people saying "WE WERE WINNING UNTIL FLORIDA GOT THE BALL"

Berry's play gave us a shot, but we had been dominated up to that point and we were dominated all but a drive and half after that.

I don;t want to be a Fulmer basher, but that was a really stupid thing to say.
