I went to the Outback Bowl last year but bought the tickets through the UT ticket office. Did anyone scalp any tickets down there last year, and if so, how much did you pay? It's $65 through the ticket offices so if less than that, I'll just wait to get down there. Thanks.

I went last year but i made the mistake of buying tickets in advance...there were plenty of sellers and i'm sure if you wait till game time you can find some for really cheap.

I bought 3 way below face about an hour before the game. There were tons of sellers, few buyers.

One who sells tickets is a scalper. One who buys them has been "scalped" (especially if he pays a premium).

I had a feeling no good could come from me pointing this out and should have honored it. Believe it or not, I wasn't trying to be a jerk, and thought this might be helpful to some. Sorry.

I bought through UT last year but will wait until game day this year. That crazy $20 order fee makes it an $85 ticket. By the looks of things on ebay, tickets on the Wisconsin side will be cheaper. I'll be looking to sit on the Vol side for sure, but I bet Wisconsin upper-level seats will practically be given away close to kickoff.

English major here. I'd argue that since the definition you provided has to be labeled "informal," then it's therefore regarded as still in flux. Scalp (viz. tickets) has come to be used commonly as a transitive verb meaning "to buy tickets from a scalper," as in "I couldn't buy tickets online, so I had to scalp them." Without a formal definition from a serious dictionary, I'd say that you're just quibbling over the current usage of slang.

I bought two tickets off of ebay for about 20 bucks a seat, they were in the upper deck. We took those tickets down and sold them for double what we paid. We then purchased tickets from a scalper 12 rows up in the corner of the endzone for 10 bucks each....the profits paid for a beer or so.

Scalpers sell higher than what they paid. Even under official value they are making money.
