I just ran across the second half of the 98 Arkansas Tennessee game and they were talking about the fans leaving after we missed the 4th down play. I was wondering if anyone on the board was there and left early and how they found out what happen?

there were plenty leaving. I might have left too if I wasn't frozen by the shock of messing up a perfect season

My dad went to the game with a buddy of his. They were walking down the ramps leaving and then heard the crowd roar from the fumble. They ran back to see what happen and the rest is history.

I was in Germany watching via Armed Forces Network. Stayed glued to the TV through the pain which then turned to the happiest place on earth.

I was having to listen to it on the radio on my way back from fall visit day at UTC for high school juniors. I had a great day at UTC, and then that was (almost) the longest 2 1/2 hour ride back to Mount Juliet of my life. However, somewhere around Murfreesboro, that miserable ride changed thanks to that fumble. :)

Clint Stumbler. I just wish I could've seen it happen.

I wasn't there, but my dad and brother went to the game. My dad left before the fumble because he was called into work, but my brother elected to stay till the bitter end, as he always does no matter the score. He was sure glad he did.

I was there along with a buddy of mine. Man did it rain like everything that night. Stood there cursing the team in the rain then it was like slow motion when he fumbled. The watched from 8 row s up as Henry ran he way toward us. what a ride of emotion. I thought my head would explode lol.

The seats I was in, in YY9, you had to leave by going up to the top of the stadium and then back down. We were on our way out in disgust...and were at the top of the stadium when it happened. The whole place was shaking...I jumped up on the concrete anchor that a girder attaches to there at the very top and watched us run it down their throats from there. Still visit that girder from time to time if I'm on that side of the stadium and rub it for luck.

I was under the overhang at the top of the stadium with my girlfriend (now wife). I never left my seat until the game was over (unless it was to cheer).

I wanted to leave at halftime, because we were getting smoked and it was raining buckets. That was our first week as #1 in the BCS and I was pissed we were playing like that. My fiancee (now wife) talked me into staying and obviously I'm glad we did....

Lots of people left. It was funny watching them trying to get back in some places. I was wet and depressed, then shocked.

Student section was the best place to sit, though. Complete strangers were hugging me.

I was watching this game with my wife, who at the time was 2 years removed from being an Arkansas cheerleader. She was jumping up and down and screaming the whole game while I was doing a giant facepalm. Needless to say, after the fumble, we switched roles. :)

My group did not leave. However, probably 40,000 of the roughly 100,000 had hit the exits and probably 95% of those made a mad dash back.

I was actually with my dad at the game and got all the way to the old dorms under the stadium when the crowd went off. Safe to say i never leave any close games until 0:00 now

Nope.

Granted I was only 11 at the time, so I wasn't really going to be leaving on my own, but still

I like how a solid 30% of the stadium left that night, and yet only one dude on here cops to leaving before seeing the fumble.

I was like.. Why do we keep running it? We're gonna run out of time! But Henry kept pounding out 8 yds per clip. Man it was sweet watching the inevitable. Ark knew what was coming and was powerless to stop it. Thank you God and thank you billy Ratliff !
