Did anyone else feel this way?

honestly...i'm thinking he was more worried about us (the fans).

You're probably right,TT.

We knew he was short term, like milohimself stated, but I didn't think it would be this short.

I'll tell you one thing,he is a brat, and I didn't like some of his play calling, but I will not take away from the fact they had us going in the right direction as far as recruiting goes. They did an outstanding job in that area.

I think I'm going to have to find me a 6 pack of Oatmeal Stouts this weekend, and join Tenn Tradition & Milohimself in the beer thread. :good!:

I felt extremely hurt but when I read the reports of how he downed Tennessee traditions and considered us as a 2nd rate USC, I'm sort of glad he's gone. Honestly, I don't see Lane being around long enough to do anything great at USC. If he isn't hit with probation, and he will, than the backbone of his coaching staff will leave him. Monte won't be around for long...Fat Eddy will run away, and Kiffin will be left high and dry.

We'll see what happens, but as it stands, USC is still a talent-laden program with some stud recruits coming in. The allegations coming their way have primarily to do with negligence rather than direct cheating, so IMO the only way they're going to hurt as bad as you hope for is if they're denied post season play. Might happen, might not. The rest of the Pac-10 has caught up in previous years, but more Rose Bowl appearances aren't out of the question. Mike Garrett has saved the program, for the time being at least.

As for calling us a 2nd rate USC, I wouldn't disagree with that. I know some of our fans have a hard time with it, but we are not an elite program anymore. Every single person in the media has said it lately, that Tennessee is a "top 10-15" job, where as USC stands on the top with only Florida and Texas as the best jobs in college ball.

I understand the decision in and of itself. A coach left us for a better gig, plain and simple.

The ONLY thing I have any real issue with in all of this is Coach O allegedly calling players, telling them not to enroll in class in order to go play ball at USC. That sends a clear message that he wants athletics to take precedence over academics, which is despicable.

Other than that, it's what happens when you're not a top program anymore; you can get left high and dry by coaches.

Mike Hamilton better make the right hire NOW, or else I'd hope every Tennessee booster, supporter, alumni and student calls for Hamilton's head. Screw up here and we'll all need to get used to .500 finishes in the SEC for years to come.

Al Davis said that Kiffin would leave the program a wreck just like he did at Oakland.

Nobody respected him outside his family and hopeful fans.

Lots of bad press was hurting not helping Tenn for future recruits. He was beginning to lose some recruiting battles.

At USC they Blamed him for the poor offense he ran. It was a let down from the previous OC. He THEN skips out and goes to Al Davis.

Silver tongue Devil.

No sense of how to build a team (look at how he treated Tenn Tradition).

No sense in how to treat HS coaches or anyone else. Arrogant.

Full of fear. Look what he does with his hands at press conferences. Look what he did in the Florida game-running clock time to shorten the game when he is behind. He didn't want to look bad. You may not have liked how Spurrier zapped you but there was never a game when 'win' wasn't the goal. If you lose go down fighting. Cowardly.

Get a clue guys. Personally I am disappointed he left. Your program is a wreck now but Lame was arranging to keep it hopeful while destroing any chance of long term sucess. You would have to start over within 5 years if he had stayed. I liked that idea:rock:

Now you are just starting over one year after Fulmer.

First off, your quoting Al Davis hurts your credibility.

Secondly, I do believe what he said in his presser at USC was right. Our team this year was simply not talented. IMO if Fulmer were still around the absolute best he could have done would be 5 wins with our group. Not only that, but we were competitive with Florida with far inferior talent, and in all reality played well enough to win at Alabama. Between CLK and the staff, we had it. He recruited. We were getting top 10 classes.

There is none. ZERO. no doubt in my mind that had CLK stayed, he would have produced an SEC title within five years. The man is a talented coach, and in no way do I buy into this "better for our program in the long run" premise. The only thing that's happened to us over the last 36 hours is that we now get to hover around .500 for a few more years while we lengthen our rebuilding project, especially if Mike Hamilton makes an idiotic hire of somebody like Muschamp.

a new guy has no reason to run his trap about someone he hasnt faced and if he does afterward he is a prick?
