DG's Thoughts After the North Texas Game

The field is a mess, I don't remember it ever being this bad. Maybe it's time to spend about a million on field turf. Orange T and checkerboard would be brighter, players are seeing it more and more even at high school level at times, and it's becoming more and more prominent in the NFL.

The Titans wont even put in field turf and that place has looked like a cow pasture for years

Decent write up. The SEC making the playoff is the least of my concern. It doesn't help Tennessee if Bama wins another title.

You are right, but having an SEC team or 2 make the playoffs opens up a better bowl possibility for non playoff SEC bowl teams. Everyone will be bumped up a notch because the playoff team doesn't take up a bowl berth.

I hadn't planned on writing anything this week but thought it turned out to be a very interesting weekend overall. I'll admit that I didn't watch all of the North Texas game (easily the dullest game this season), but watched enough..

great perspective.

Would some of you that know the answer to this question please enlighten me,what is wrong with our field and what needs to be done to get it right? Also, why is it in such disrepair as so many have mentioned?

Drainage and Maintenance.

Injuries. Maybe why we play better away from home.

Not the speedy track of old.

Cutting. The ability is not there. Fear of injury. Ever had your knee give way.

Fix what we got or replace it.

That's what losing teams fans do

They hop on the SEC bandwagon

I'd strongly disagree with this sentiment. There's something to be said for pride in the conference. I'm all about rooting for the SEC ... when it's LSU, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Missouri, or even Georgia.

But not Bama.

Dormandy's deep ball to Josh Smith was B-E-A-UTIFUL...maybe little under thrown. However, i think he looked like a freshman QB. I haven't watched any film but he seemed very quick to pull the ball down and run, which is strange given his PP classification. So I don't know if our 2nd string WR's just weren't getting space or he wasn't making it through his reads. Beautiful deep ball though, glad Butch let him show off his arm. The Dormandy hype is going to be insane going in to 2017

Agreed!

We played like we didn't want to be there and put little to no effort into the game, pretty much sums it up haha

Excellent observation. Even with a "clean" pocket, he pulled the ball prematurely and ran. Hopefully, this is a function of inexperience and the jitters.

Good thing we let him get a bunch of game time against the cupcake we played this week, so that he could work that out.

I don't know what part of the game you was watching, but the deep ball to Josh Smith that I saw was thrown in front of him where he would have caught it in stride if the NT defender hadn't tripped Josh. Why there was no PI flag I don't know. Josh still almost made a spectacular catch on the ball.

I disagree. He didn't look as fast as Dobbs, but that's not a surprise. What was surprising was his ability to evade rushers and even gain several yards on a keeper. Yes, he did get caught from behind once, but he was gingerly moving forward looking downfield and had JUST decided to run when he got tackled.

Dormady looks way better than Dobbs in the pocket, and that's gotta count for something. I hope that there is an open competition in the Spring.

Gingerly? Is that a synonym for "slow as molasses"? :) He's not much of a threat on the read option that our ground game is based upon. He is much more of a threat for big down field pass plays though and that can open up the run when defenses cannot load up the box for fear of getting torched on one on one coverage. But with our OL, that would be a sack a thon and an injury waiting to happen. Probably why Dobbs is our best bet until we get better on the line.

I too would like to see an open competition but with Sherrion Jones, Jarrett Guarantano also in the mix. Dobbs probably still wins because of the other weaknesses in our offense and his experience.

Who?

Who??

I enjoyed watching Dormady throw, but I'm not sure he could survive our O-line, at least how they looked Saturday.

This question was even asked by me before he signed...I still give up...Butch needed another QB? :dunno:
Dormady is more accurate and faster than Worley...heck, who isn't.

GO VOLS!

You guys have not seen enough of Dormady to base an opinion; I have. How can he show you what he has when he gets virtually no reps and when he does the plays are to run out the clock? He's an accurate passer and can make plays with his feet. No, he's not as quick on his feet as Dobbs but he can make plays with his feet. If he looked slow out there it was the field, everyone was slipping. For what little you do see of him his passes are normally on target.

Next year or possibly our bowl game, I would like to see
the wildcat used with both Dobbs and Dormady and Hurd ,in at the same time. Talk about putting pressure on a Defense. Endless possibilities, and no stacking the box.

Yeah, but that would take some creative thinking and an adjustment by the coaches; what are the odds? You know how well they are at making adjustments--run, run, run, punt.

Which begs the question why did we recruit Dormady? He's a more accurate Justin Worley and our offense as I understand it is predicated on a mobile QB.

Also why recruit Hunter Johnson and go after Trevor Lawrence? Seems like both of those guys are nothing like Dobbs. Now JG on the other hand....

I was also amazed Dormady did not get much time. I think our coaches were thinking about the fact N Texas had beat Tennessee in there first meeting. If Dobb's is not 100 percent for the Mo game it may be an upset. Then VN goes crazy. That performance Saturday is not good enough to beat Vanderbilt or Mo. They got to ramp it up.
