Having those 2 back drastically changes Oline depth both the 1's and 2's for the better. Them being out actually helps long term as it gets our 2's and 3's more reps? I think/hope/pray we could get a pleasant surprise from our O-line this year because of this.Good Summary!! :hi:
If we can get Trey and Chance Hall back (and they stay Healthy) could be game changer for Oline, if not.....Yikes!?!:blink:
.
While I'm not one of those 10-2 type guys.. do keep in mind that auburn went from 3-9 to 11-1 regular season after a coaching change.
7-5?? Really curious to know which 7 games we will win... we are probably a 5-7 team right now.
Even with butch, we almost beat SCAR.
Florida is in the same hole as us and they come to Neyland...Defense (Pruitt) > Offense (Mullen).
Mizzou: Better defense and no Josh Heupel as OC will mean huge drop off for Drew Lock and company.
Kentucky: We should beat them. They are still a good team, especially the running game but we are better. Significant QB drop-off this year.
WV: their defense sucks and we can contain them with a good running game centric offense.
Vandy: should be the worst of the SEC this season.
ETSU
UTEP
Charlotte
That's 9 winnable games, we should snag at least 7 of those.
Auburn has been an up and down team under Gus, so you never know and upset is always possible there as well. But it would be an upset no doubt.
It's a good point. We had the talent to win 9 games last season. And even with terrible coaching, we should've won 6 games, bare minimum. I don't think we're getting above 9 wins, best case scenario, but certainly this team is much better than the 4-8 record indicated last season.
Probably the biggest argument against a quick rebound is the change in both offensive and defensive philosophy. When Auburn went from 3-9 to 11-1, the players were actually recruited for Gus Malzahn's offensive philosophy when he was there as OC. So there wasn't a huge schematic change. Whereas, we're doing a huge schematic change on both sides of the ball.
The good news is that there's nowhere to go but up on offense. O-line probably puts a ceiling on this team, though, and I suspect it will take the D awhile to gel. Might not happen till Year 2.
Surprised most think Florida is a toss up. Mullen will get the most out of that roster unlike McElwain
Florida has better talent than we do right now, but that's not to say that they aren't talent deficient. They still have no real answer at QB and their defense is not what it used to be.
I agree that CDM will fare better than CJM, but all things considered I think Pruitt is the better coach. We will probably lose that game, but I think its one of the few games that we could win, that we shouldn't. Would put USCjr in the same category.
That's my opinion
I know football. I say that in a humble tone. Thanks but I already knew it was your opinion. What specific traits about Pruitt, who has never been a HC, give the opinion he's a better HC than a guy who's been doing it for a few years and has had some pretty decent success?
I would love it if he turns out to be better than Mullen. Right now though, I realize it would be delusional to believe he's better without prior experience doing it.
