DG's Spring Game Takeaways

Fixed.

Should be 5 win floor, 9 win ceiling.

Expect 6-7 wins.

With CJP&S coming up with the game plans, there are no sure losses.

Our QB was reading the defense and making adjustments and changing the play. That's a major wild card too.

There are plenty of sure losses on the schedule this season. I agree with your sentiment that this team will grow a lot this year, but we are not even close to being able to compete with the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Auburn. Having the expectation that we will win 7 games or more this year is just setting yourself and this team up for failure.

It all starts with recruiting big strong guys... it’s not that hard.

Then you have to develop those guys and make sure your s&c program is at an elite level. We will get there, but it will take time. Butch recruited highly ranked guys on the OL. But failed to develop them and let them get lazy.

Bama, Georgia, Auburn and Florida are sure losses. Why? Well Bama has Saban, end of story. Georgia has so much more talent than us and it looks like Smart can coach. Auburn is more talented. Now that leaves Florida. A few years ago I said I will never go into a season expecting a loss to UF. That has changed. I am convinced that UF could have a middle school team out there and find a way to beat us.

I cant put WV as a sure loss because of their defense, but thats likely a loss as well.

There are a ton of big strong guys that get their lunches eaten every Saturday by Dlineman much smaller. Takes a unique skill set to place SEC football on the Oline

I was very encouraged by what I saw in the spring game..Were we great ? NO...But did see a lot of improvement...I think we will win more games than people expect...

Also remember we still have grad transfers coming in the fall they may be starters for this team...

Three of the OOC games should be gimmes. UT has more raw talent than WVU, Vandy, UK, and Mizzou. As far as pure talent, UT probably still has more talent than USCe.

If Pruitt is the right guy and the coach we're hoping for, this is a 7 regular season win team. Minus one then it is somewhat of a more negative outlook. Minus two, he's probably not the right guy. Plus one then it is more of a positive outlook. Plus 2... start looking for a street to name after him.

Development is more of an issue than talent in the roster he inherited. There are some talent holes... but the great coaches figure out how to win games in spite of less than ideal circumstances.
Well, your true colors finally came out uncle Lou. You’re scared of Pruitt, as you should be, because you know Georgia and Smart is going to have their hands full with Pruitt.:clapping::rock::):thud:

Our new coaching staff is a wild card too. Being able to beat a more talented team is the sign of a good coach. I expect CJP&S to put in the work and call solid games.

They are a 7-5 team right now. I'm glad we have a long off season to improve. A lot of mistakes to correct.

I'm glad to more formations on both sides of the ball.

I think CJP will be good at the tough conversations that need to happen.

I would have like to seen Mcbride run with the 1s.

Totally disagree. We don't look good enough to steal more than one, maybe two SEC games. A quantum leap is needed in fall camp.

WV- toss up.

Scrub - w

Scrub- w

Fl- toss up

Ga - toss up

Auburn - toss up

Gumps - toss up

SC- win

MO - win

Scrub win.

Ky- win

Vandy- win

What was on the field Saturday would win those 7 and maybe more.

WV and SC is my guess for the difference.

The days of losing gimmie games is over. I'm glad for that too.

WTF are you smokin??? How can you believe that the game with Georgia and Alabama are toss ups? Or do you not believe it and are just searching for the reaction to this post?

I've seen too many teams get beat by less talent due to coaching. CJP&S are a wild card that makes every game winnable. There is talent on this team. No more super conservative game plans that limit our chances of winning.

7-5?? Really curious to know which 7 games we will win... we are probably a 5-7 team right now.

Usc, uk, vandy, mizzou, wv, all wins. We are 8-4 team automatically. More realistic is 9-3 or even 10-2. We'll beat florida and auburn will be a close one.

Wow. You are entitled to your own prediction but know that this is unrealistic and this sets up the team and Pruitt for failure.

Here is the truth:

WVU - L
ETNS - W
UTEP - W
Florida - Toss up
UGA - L
Auburn - L
Bama - L
USCjr - Toss up
UNCC - W
UK - Toss up
Mizzou - Toss up
Vandy - Toss up

We have 3 guaranteed wins.
We have 5 toss up games.
We have 4 guaranteed losses.

The ceiling is 8-4
The floor is 3-9

We will likely fall in the middle at 5-7/6-6.

JG's issues are still in his head. He has to do pre/post snap reads much better and stop holding the ball so long.

He was much better on Saturday.....much, much better. As a matter of fact, as the game went along, when he got to the last step in his drop, he was getting rid of the ball, and he was accurate with it. He certainly needs to continue to progress, but he’s already much better at reading and recognizing and delivering the ball quickly imho.

Very good summary and analysis. Three months and twenty something days after Pruitt and new staff starts rebuilding the worst team showing in recent history, about what I expected. Agree the injured and newbies will be the difference between bowl game or not. I believe we win the home games against KY, FL, MO, the non-conference games, and Vandy. Go Vols!

Spot on. If people actually expect to win 7-9 games this season they will be miserably disappointed yet again.

It's not the talent factor, we have talent at positions and we have speed but we are changing schemes completely on both sides of ball. We need more than spring and fall camp to get things ironed out.

With that being said, we could and should be a much better ball club come mid October November than the first half of the year and winning in November is doable. Keep our heads down and go to work!! Go vols!!

The roster has never been the problem...

We have more talent and better coaching than 9 of the teams on our schedule and Auburn is real close.

So, I just figured out who you are. You call the Swain Event most every morning don’t you? You try to be the first caller every day. You’re Andy aren’t you? Fess up.
