A good place to start is with fellows named Helton and Friend, IMO. Down blocking on OLine may have improved slightly but total concept that takes into account blitzes and stunts and UT still needs to develop technique. I don't like shuffling linemen around. I think it adds to confusion. Need to take full advantage of the off week and maybe install a few gimmick plays and work on downfield passing game. May be enough time to get Calloway back. Receivers still need to learn how to get separation. Not much else to say 'cept we need to pass more. Can't see running on 3rd and 17. I'll never figger that'un out!Until the offense has someone who can lead sustained drives consistently the D is always going to be on the field way too long.
We need to make an all-out surge to get Wright in here to go along with Morris. That would go a long way in the re-build. Hope we can do that.I think for the first time this season I saw what the team could be for about a quarter. After the Georgia drive that put them up 24-0, I actually saw the team play for about 15 mins of what this team could be. On Offense, it is really about getting an OL through recruiting. On D it is depth. I thought the secondary didn't play bad. I think the DL got worn down at the end and the last two drives.
I can see them beating Charlotte. Then Vandy, Kentucky, USCe we have a chance, but don't see us winning all 3. Mizzou seems like a bad matchup for us like WVU.
As long as we keep out OL recruits and possibly add one more it would address a glaring need. Same for DL

Your posts are excellent! I really appreciate an evaluation that is actually well thought out and give a wonderful representation of what is seen, not a simple rehash of the same old agenda. There are many on here in both camps on this board who could use a little mentoring. This is pretty spot-on. We've seen flashes of potential for the offense when we play without mistakes.
D-line depth is killing us in run defense; we end up exhausted by the 4th Quarter. The good news is that Bama and Georgia are by far the two strongest running teams we'll play this season. There are no other teams comparable, albeit, Kentucky's Benny Snell has been pretty good this year, but UK doesn't have a 3- or 4- headed monster like UGA and Bama.
While I'm not happy with the run D overall, I thought it was much better against a more difficult UGA attack than it was against WV and Florida. We wore down at the end, but we got far more stops than I expected prior to the 4th Quarter, so just seems like there's been consistent progress on D as the season has gone on.
We are just painfully slow on defense. We aren’t able to square up and tackle and end up tackling from the side or behind.
Guarantano needs to run more. IMO
I know some QBs handle roll outs better than others. Anybody know if Garret Jarantano (Kessling) is competent passing on the run?You can't run an RPO behind an o-line that can barely block for the runningback, much less a dual-threat QB who isn't actually dual threat.
Helton needs to roll JG out of the pocket to keep the defense honest, so they don't stack the box on every play, and totally eliminate our running game.
At the moment we are not a run threat unless the defense totally whiffs on their assignments.
I agree with this. Something I've seen far too much of this year is a runner pushing a pile of defenders 8-10 yards.I still believe that a lot of our problems are S&C. Arm tackles are broken and tackles in general past the line of scrimmage are not being made. I watched closely at the Ga. O-line vs. our D-line, and you can clearly see that the lower bodies of the Ga. O-line was much bigger than the lower bodies of our D-line. Until the S&C is corrected we will have trouble with bigger teams.
