Not sure if serious.

I like Dabo. He'd be my top choice to follow Saban. If it doesn't turn out that way, idk who would be my favorite, that would actually have the cajones to follow Saban's success there. The possible candidates might be differrent in a few years. UGA is Kirby's dream job. Maybe Jimbo, Pruitt, Daboll :dunno:

Did anybody mention Chris Ash from Rutgers?

He's my dark horse and here is why:

The JG connection. Butch will coach somewhere else but we don't need JG leaving us to follow Butch. Ash could convince him to stay. Pretty sure he was recruiting him while as a DC for Ohio State.

His current OC worked with Currie at Kansas State in the AD dept.
Not a big fan of Jerry Kill as an OC, but you gotta think he's 1 phone call away.

Rutgers is miles apart from Tennessee resources. But it will be interesting how these next games will pan out. He beat Purdue. And people here want the Purdue coach.

It can be done, but it's difficult to be right behind a legendary winner. Even Stallings had the sense to not follow up right behind the Bear.

iirc, Coach Bryant favored Ray Perkins to be his successor.

And, fwiw, for the sake of so many posters who can't seem to assess coaches' potential beyond looking at their W-L records -- Stallings hadn't won bigly as a HC before coming to Bama. Much of who Stallings is was because of what he learned from Bryant. And much of who Dabo is came from what he learned from Stallings.

A coach's pedigree is a key indicator of whether or not they have the winner "it" factor.

stallings was on PF show i think last week and he recounted those days when Bama was considering Perkins and Stallings to replace Bryant, and if i remember right, Stallings said Bryant actually favored Stallings, not Perkins, but the university went with the more proven commodity. could be misremembering that though.

I wasn't aware Stallings said that. I don't doubt it. I was going by memory from way back when. And my memory sux. Too many concussions. :lol:

I know jimbo fisher has been trending down the last few years on offense. I still think he is ten times better than jones. Maybe we could make a play for him.

Run the wishbone, punt and play D.
There are lots of guys who can run the Bone.
They're taught this offense since Pop Warner.
Nobody else in the SEC runs it or practices against it.
I said this before Butch was hired.
We'd be in a much better position if we'd hired him then.

Second, Auburn is in a make or break moment right now. They are 6-2 right now. If they finish 8-4 or 7-5, The Gus Bus officially breaks down and Auburn will trade it in.

They have 4 games left with 2 being for sure losses to Bama and UGA. That puts them at 6-4 with a for sure win vs UL Monroe and a toss up game at College Station vs A&M.

7-5 gets Gus fired.

If they make a change, I doubt they rebound right away next year with a first time coach unless they steal someone like Chip Kelly. He would win there, but the fan base is almost completely fed up with the spread offense.

I saw it as well and you are correct. It must have been a known thing because PF was saying it and Stallings agreed and explained further.

Dye and Dooley both knew whichever won between the two programs the recruiting wars in the state of Georgia would have the better of the two programs. Dye started beating Dooley in that regard and basically retired him. Smart at UGA may be taking this to heart as well which will spell doom for Malzahn if he does and most in the SEC East as well. Bama as a state does not produce enough quality players to feed two major powerful schools and like TN has to pull some from Florida and Georgia as well.

Smart somehow has convinced Eason a soph, Fromme a frosh, and now the #1 player in the country who also happens to be a QB to be a bulldog. Not sure how he is doing it, but like Saban he is convincing kids it's ok to sit for a few years and only play for one or two. I have yet to see a kid get better not playing but they're selling it and kids are buying it.
