DeWayne Brown is playing great!

5This guy is a beast, fierce rebounder, excellent passer with great court awareness. He's like a Draymond Green without the drama and baggage. Love watching him play.
thankful that the vols began recruiting him early, and I understand he's a great kid and good fit for barnes. staff showed confidence in him early, and i was figuring in the fall that he wasnt going to see much PT,

I am so glad the Oat whiffed on him

Brown has a high ball IQ. His perimeter defense is maybe even better than Felix and does the little things. For example I noticed on one defensive possession the ball was kicked out and moving as we were rotating. As the ball got to the wing, Brown was already rotating to the corner and was there to contest what normally would be open 3.

I wonder if he’s going to have an outside jumper in his game over the next couple years. It’s going to be interesting to see how he develops. The future is definitely bright for him.

Seems like he can already hit the 12-15 footers in the paint?

And he's a good free throw shooter, which is always a sign of a kid who could develop into a good perimeter shooter. I would love to have him here for a couple more seasons beyond this one along with Evans and Henderson to form a championship level core.

Talking perimeter defense, he blocked a 3

And there was a really fascinating defensive possession where he got switched onto Perry (their PG) on the wing and Perry thought it was a mismatch and tried to break him down on the dribble. Perry couldn’t do it and even ended up fumbling his dribble and had to pass out of it.

That or other schools will poach him through the lure of the Portal with a bigger bag on the other side. Part of the game now days. Hopefully this won't happen with him.
We haven’t had that happen to any of our players yet though, unless you count Carr but he seemed like he had his mind set on leaving regardless.

Yes I remember that. Browns defensive stance and balance is really good and great footwork.
If he had a normal neck he’d be 6’11 and a big problem.

A fascinating thing about this comparison is that Draymond Green was not in good shape at Michigan State.

What turned him into a future Hall of Famer and arguably the greatest role player of all-time was getting in shape.

I think Brown could stand to lose 10 or 15 pounds and it would help his mobility even more. Plus he has a 7 foot three wingspan.

My impression, and it’s only my opinion, is that he moves extremely well and with really good fluidity. His extra bulk and strength at that weight seem to serve him well in the board battles, etc. Would he be better off knowing the wars inside are so competitive?

I agree. Think it’s been reported he’s already dropped a good bit if weight in high school.

This whole class has been impressive with the exception of Massamba, and Coach is still complimentary of his effort and work ethic on the talk shows, just referencing his later arrival as an issue. More than once we have had Carey and 4 freshmen in the floor.

I look for more Henderson minutes down the stretch at point to take some fatigue and stress off 0. Especially combining with Boswell out top. 1 and 6 have earned the trust of Coach for sure.

Man, I loved your songs...'Hot Fun In the Summertime', 'Everyday People', 'Everybody Is a Star'... I could go on and on. Miss you, bro.

63.6%...not great. BUT, what gives me hope is that his shot isn't ugly. He has good form and with increased focus and reps, I believe he can jump that % up 8-10 pts. He was 15-20 (75%) in the OOO portion of the schedule, but only 6-13 (46.2%) in SEC play.

They all have good strokes. It's a matter of focusing on every single foul shot.

I agree. I don't think significant weight loss is necessary because he doesn't look like he is carrying bad weight, to me. He is a solid 6'-8 and 250 lbs. He has already lost 30-35 lbs since his junior year of high school, apparently. If losing 10-15 lbs made him more of an above the rim player, then maybe I'd fall in that camp. Just not sure he has that kind of athleticism. More of a Grant Williams type athlete. Guys that get up, but just aren't quick (springy) jumpers.
