Devrin Young's potential....

If he had played in any other state - his competition would have been better - resulting in worse stats - then resulting in the same ranking basically. The ranking is right.

I agree about his ranking. Fortunately this ranking does not include the intangibles like desire and heart. He is a fan favorite because he played locally, but only time will tell how long this "favorite player status" will last. :salute:

By saying Devrin Young did this against weeker talent AND was definately a 3 star AND that we would not be this great in tougher football regions is an absolute joke! If the competition would be tougher on defense, wouldn't his blocking be better to? His elusivness will take over any where he goes! I went and watched many games of Devrin...........he had to CREATE his own holes. But once he found them, not even the best player on the other team could tackle him. He will be a difference maker in his first year which in my opinion, if you can start as a freshman in the SEC, you deserve in the least a 4th star. GO DY! AND GO VOLS!

How many 4 star players have just one committable D-1 offer?

Noel Devine- 5'7" 160
Jaquizz Rodgers- 5'7" 190
Danny Woodhead- 5'7" 195
Jeff Demps- 5'7" 190

Not saying he will be any of these players, just saying that it seems to me that with some work put in with McKeefery, he should be just fine.

Don't forget Trindon Holliday- 5'5" 169

I think DY red shirts so he can get some size. He will grow alot over the next couple of years. What I like about a guy like DY is he has been told his whole life he is to small and it hasn't made a differance yet. He will be one of the hardest working guy on the team and could motivate the whole team. What I'm saying is he could be more valuable than any of us will ever know.

Exactly. He's just so small...I worry about him being split in two on some huge hit.

:birgits_giggle:

He's so low to the ground it's hard to get a good hit on him. He'll be fine in that aspect. I want to see if he can break tackles at this level.

Young, Coleman, Thomas, and Dallas will all get a good look for KR and PR. Remember that Dooley said our 3 deep at these positions could possibly be all freshmen.

I just vision us using him for returning kicks. But I think he could be like another Dexter McCluster. Small, Strong, and extremely fast, he could get there in a few years

If he has a Mark Mariani type impact for us next year, I will be extremely happy. I think that is his about all we can ask of him, atleast next year. Jmo.

He will play next year, and he will play well. You have to catch him to get a hit on him and he knows how to avoid the blow-up hit. I think they will also bring on two of the other new recruits to work with him for K-returns and back-up on punts. I hope they move Da'rick off the K-return team as they need to reduce the odds of injury. He's too important to the offense.

I think he plays next year. We need his skills this fall.

Marlin Lane was a good punt returner in high school.
By the way, has anyone ever seen a 40 time for Young.

Maybe Tino Thomas also.

If he's recovered, I hope Naz Oliver gets a shot at KR and PR. Pre-injury, I believe he had legit 4.4 speed.

And come to think of it, is the track cat that got injured last season returning on MR, or has that ship sailed?

I am with you. When you watch his tape there is something about him....he is what 5'7" but his strides are comparable to someone of 6'7". J. Rodgers seems to be a reasonable comparison in context of size. Who knows maybe that is what we get! At the least he should improve our special teams and would be great on shovel passes as he would be completely lost to defenders.

Evander Wells only had one year eligibility. Pretty sure he just graduated and moved on.

actually he would of had more offers had he stayed in the game

Georgia Tech
Duke
Tulane
Western Kentucky
Texas A&M
Mississippi State
were all offering him...but it made no sense ...they knew he wanted to play for Tennessee....they told him to call if something changes....

Stanford offered him as a junior...so that would have been at least 7 offers right there...

he was also hearing from Nebraska, Michigan, Virgina and had other offers from CN, Elon, Western Carolina, etc...

if he stayed in the game he would have had 10 + offers...the vols came in at the right time....and the kid has wanted to be a vols all his life...so why wait and play this game like some recruits do if you know where you wanna go?

Thanks. Crazy - the injury issues that hit pre-season. May not have made much difference, but would've been nice to see Walls, Wells, and Martin.

And to stay on topic, Devrin seems like a good kid. I hope he proves the critics wrong here.
