Destiny

I've been lurking on Volnation for a while but never realized there was a Destiny thread. Are most people here in PS or Xb1? Xbox myself, GT is Quicr. Feel free to add me, I'm always up for anything.

Most are on PS4. I am on Xbox One but have not played in a while. I will once Rise of Iron comes out. GT is kwebbvols4423

Is this something that I can pick up today and actually be competitive with online?

Regular multiplayer (Crucible) is normalized so your character's level and your weapon/armor light levels don't matter. I know I've been killed by lower level characters plenty of times. :)

Probably the biggest initially hurdle is getting your abilities (jump, melee, super) unlocked. You'll be at a bit of a disadvantage until you do but that happens pretty quick. There's also a level booster you'll get that you can use on one character that unlocks most of the ability options right off the bat.

I find I run mostly run a hunter (nightstalker). Tends to suit my play style which is a little slower and more deliberate. My son, who likes to run into the middle of every firefight he can find, runs a titan.

Race is cosmetic only so pick whichever one you like best.

Here's the thing...you pretty much have to play PvE to rank up your character and get gear you need. Most PvP is normalized and levels/rank of your guns doesn't really matter too much. PvE is also needed for several weapons you'd want (ie. Exotic sword).

But, the top tier PvP event, Trials, doesn't normalize. Friday - Tuesday, it's 3v3 and 9-0 will get you a visit to the Lighthouse. That's probably the biggest achievement in Destiny. However, anything over level 300 or 310 is at the end of the curve and not drastically different from a 335 guy. Important but not all that important once you get to a certain rank.

Pretty much this Bearcat. With the spark I can get you to level 40 and light level 180 in a few hours. Then the grind ensues

Absolutely addictive PVP. Even though I hate running the raid and all of the other metrics the PVP is industry best hands down. PSN Gigglenshnizer

I will run the raid once every so often but my characters are all at 333-334 and I just don't have the ambition to push to 335.

People are still playing this? I quit after I fought the cabal on Mars for the 432nd consecutive time. Did the expansions bring a lot more to the game?

I have all 3 of my characters at 331.
Hardly any friends on anymore, so I haven't run the Raid or NightFall in 6 months.
Building my characters by doing POE and Iron Banner.

I use to hate running crucible, but not anymore... :hi:

I typically run raid with randos from LFG, some days you can get solid groups, others you're better off doing it in your own. I really prefer crucible over anything else. I'm not even that good at it, but it is fun.

I'm not good either but I do play some crucible.:hi:

Got my first flawless Sunday, Trials is becoming so difficult that even with a good team you need a whole lot of luck

I ran Trials once, when my friends were on, about 6 months ago. Didn't do very good.
Would like to try again in the near future.
Also would like to hook up with any to run some NightFall, and some Raid. Haven't ran either in a long time....:hi:
