Destiny

Yeah, I'm the same way. I hardly check my friends list but I'll keep an eye out for you.

Can someone explain the class armor? I'm not sure I understand it's significance since it doesn't really have any attributes.

Absolutely nothing. It's stupid and pointless. Don't even concern yourself with it.

The ONLY thing that matters about it is that's how you join a faction, if you choose to do so. You buy their class item for 2,500 glimmer and you wear it. Then your reputation all goes towards that instead of Vanguard and Crucible. Also sometimes it plays into bounties for special events (Queen's Wrath/Iron Banner).

Other than that. Like I said, stupid and pointless. Purely cosmetic.

You guys pretty much held your own and took care of the Min. That's probably the hardest part of the mission... keeping him in check. I think we did just fine.

Sounds like you might try the raid early Friday afternoon. I'll be around probably 7 or 8 Friday. If you want to run it then, I'd be happy to join you.

If it's your first time doing the Raid, I'd suggest skimming over a couple videos or tutorial on how to play it. Will just make life easier and the raid a lot quicker.

From reading last night, seems like a lot of people are having issues on the final boss. Wrong number teleporting, connection drops, etc. Hopefully it's minor stuff they are patching behind the scenes right now.

Thanks for the invite tonight DRR. Hopefully next time I'll have my rank higher and I'll be able to join. I've moved up from 21 to 23 pretty quickly.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if there was some hidden meaning that I should know about.

Another thing with the armor you may come across. Now that you've hit the 20s you might pick up a legendary armor item for another class. It happens to everyone. I'm a Titan but have gotten legendary armor for warlocks and hunters. Armor doesn't work between classes like weapons do. It's exclusive to each class. If you want you put it in the vault and make another character class to play with and level up. I have a buddy that's got all three guardian classes leveled up from 26-29.

Or you can be like me and just dismantle it for ascendant shard for your current character.

Rosen, I finally realized the screams from the pumpkin head. I first I was like wtf is that!

Yeah, I was digging the screaming. It's so subtle but hilarious to hear when playing. Sounds really good in the surround gold headset.

Heard a good idea tonight...Start another character of the same type. When they get to 20 you can just swap everything over as you switch characters. Think I might do that.

And one more cool trick I hadn't seen til recently. During public events, if drop ships are bringing guys in, pull out a good rocket launcher. If you can hit the center between the 2 rows of guys on the ship, lots of times they all die. I've done several stages of incoming enemies now using just a single rocket.

Xur has Patience and Time this week. That active camouflage is amazing, but it seems like it's more a PvP rifle than a good PvE one, so I may hold off for a better weapon next week.

A few questions for you pros. I'm now rank 23 and still trying to get to Vanguard rank 2.

1. When I get to Vangaurd rank 2, what's the first thing I should purchase?

2. Am I going to get any decent gear doing level 22 strikes or is it just random? My last strike, I got a blue level 16 Scout Rifle.

3. What kinds of things do you keep in the vault? I've been holding on to blues up until now, but I can't see any reason to hold on to them. I suppose I could keep a few at various levels in case I start another character.

4. This is a really dumb question, but can someone explain the key benefits of elemental weapons? Specifically, when should I use them (against what type of opponents)? I think there are three different elemental types, is that right?

5. Anyone have a good route for farming public events?

1. Legendary armor is all you can really purchase at Vanguard 2. Up to you which. Doesn't matter a lot whether it's helmet, chest, ect. They all have the same level of light. Chest armor will offer the highest defense overall.

2. Get used to getting random low level blue drops. It happens on anything you do whether it's the strike playlist or weekly missions. But you should get decent stuff once in a while doing the strike playlist. It offers a good combo of gear, experience, and marks. I can't remember which exactly, but I've gotten legendary stuff doing the strikes. You should see better gear as you go higher in strike difficulty.

3. I held onto the high blues at first, then realized, for me, it was pointless. I started a second character, but quit with him at level 5. I have a couple blue weapons in there I use for crucible sometimes since the attributes and not attack level are what matter. My vault now mostly is legendary weapons that I haven't gotten around to upgrading. No armor.

4. Nothing dumb about that question. It's actually a great one. Elements don't matter a lot till you start getting into the strikes or heroic missions. Or the raid. When you see any enemy that has a glow around him when you shoot him, that's a shield. Regular weapons or weapons that aren't that element will take a lot of ammo to break that shield. Weapons that do that type of elemental damage will break the shield quickly. The color of the shield lets you know what type of element to use.

Orange, use weapons that do solar damage. the orange flame symbol. I see orange shields on wizards mostly and the high level colossus on Mars.

Purple, use void damage. The purple spiral element. Most notably used by the minotaurs/praetorians. When you do the raid on Venus, have some good leveled up special/heavy weapons that do void damage.

And blue, use arc damage. The blue ninja star thingy. I see this most notably on the high level knights.

There are other enemies that use shields but these are the ones I face the most. Having the right weapons for the right element makes clearing those enemies IMMENSELY easier. I carry a variety of weapons at all times for that reason.

5. Destiny Public Events - Timer and Resources

This site is very helpful. It'll tell you what the event is, where to go, and what time. The public events aren't always on the minute or sometimes won't appear, but we'll use this site to figure out where to go next if we're doing events. If I'm by myself, I'd recommend killing the Devil Walker in The Divide on Earth. It's my go to spot. At roughly 15 minutes and 45 minutes after the hour every hour. You don't even need friends or help. You can finish him by yourself.

Great stuff Deeble, thanks.

Just finished playing a bit with Thrasher. We did a weekly heroic (I think that's what it was), that seemed quite difficult for level 22. Good times, though. I just need to get my Vanguard rank to Level 2 so I can start buying legendary armor.

Can someone translate this?

Your chance of finding better quality items increases as your level does, so absolutely equip low-Light items for a single level boost – it’s worth it for the bonuses alone, but it will also make it much more likely that you’ll find an even better piece.

I think it's saying always equip new armor that gives you a light level boost, even if you don't like the other attribute boosts.

I did the Vault of Glass yesterday. It was a lot of fun, but one person in the party that doesn't know what they're doing can ruin it for everyone.

I got the suros regime and a raid chest piece. It took like an hour to get to Atheon and then we tried for several hours but people kept screwing it up. Never did beat him, but I'll try again next week.

An hour? I must be playing with random dumbasses or something. One hour in and we're still defending the first conflux against the Templar. It's usually 4-5 hours to get to Atheon.

Wow that's pretty long. My usual group has it down to about 1:15 for the whole thing. A ran it with a group of fandom's the other night and it took about two hours. But, granted, they were pretty good fandom's. Everyone seemed surprised how we breezed through it.

Any tips on buying from Xur? I only need a couple of coins in order to buy an exotic from Xur (armor or gun?).

Also, go ahead and spend motes of light on an engram. If it's not for your class, it dismantles for upgrade materials. There's nothing else you can spend motes on that matters.

Can't go wrong with exotic armor if you don't have any. I bought an exotic chest piece from Xur back when I was level 23 and I still use it today at 29.

You may already know but Xur only shows up on Friday and Sat. If you need a couple more coin and you want to buy something today, find someone to run a weekly heroic now if you haven't already.

I've actually taken the opposite approach. I've been hoarding my motes of light in case they ever sell something else for motes that might be useful.

I'm just a tic shy of 23. Haven't had much luck at all finding any good gear at all. Got one exotic, but it was for a different class. If anyone is on XBone, send me an invite or a FR.

I doubt that day will come, but it makes sense. Since Motes are earned from XP, they should have a more meaningful use.

I am hoarding strange coins and motes waiting for exotic helmets. Since you can only get the raid helmet on the hard raid, I'll try for an exotic helmet. I have an exotic chest piece, and of course that's the piece of raid gear I got. So now I'm going to swap it for an exotic helmet after I get the raid chest armor fully leveled. I will definitely miss the extra grenade the Armamentarium affords. :(

I have yet to receive any strange from these coins I got. False advertising if you ask me...
