Desmond Howard can suck it

He’s actually factually correct. Since the 2001 SEC Championship loss...

The sports media (and the media as a whole) are like jackals circling with glee to watch and highlight the troubles, failures, and shortcoming of others. It has fed a really bad tendency in society at large where we seem to revel in watching once successful people and organizations take a big fall. Rather than just being happy for your own team, cheering for them, and being thankful for success, way too many of us take glee in stomping on others with snarky, unsolicited, and unprovoked comments when they’re down. It’s tough to endure gracefully, especially from a proud fan base such as ours.

That being said, Desmond isn’t really wrong. We had a couple of blips on the radar where it “looked” like things were turning around, but all of those turned out to be false signs life - Hell, when Butch Jones couldn’t figure out how to win the SEC East with Dobbs, Kamarra, Jennings, and Sutton on this team, that was a clear indicator that he was incapable of getting it done. The only way to fix it is to actually get back to winning.

Depends on what he defines as good. Maybe winning a conference champ? I don't remember Michigan winning one in a long time. Michigan is "good" at having the most over-payed over-rated coach in college football. So there's that.

**they haven't won one since 2004

Not sure he was talking about Mich. Am sure he was talking about Tenn. Really don't think he mentioned Mich. in this statement at all.....

Things will start to change when Tennessee goes 7-5 and gets to go Bowling. Tennessee's turnaround from 1-4 will get a lot of coverage.

He doesn't provide anything to the show. His knowledge is almost exclusively Michigan and Ohio State (out of necessity). Kirk is more knowledgeable on both of those teams, the Big Ten in general, and can speak on most P5 schools. It's obvious Des doesn't do show prep. I wish they would downsize the show to just Rece and Kirk (and Bear for my fellow gambling degens), and maybe rotate through a guest analyst every week.

I am sorry to be odd one out but really we have not been "really good" since then. Had a team here and there that was decent but '01 was the last time we had a legit chance to make a run at the title, since then pretty average to really bad with a few bright spots mixed in.

Vols have been "okay" a few times since 2001. "Okay" a few times is not good. So, technically he's correct, in that the Vols have not competed at a high level since then.

No need to get all hot and bothered and hopping mad over it. It's true.

But, the same can be said for his underachieving Wolverines, too.....

He didn't and I didn't say that he did. Obviously he played at Michigan, I was commenting on them.

I didn't mean you did. It just seem your thread turned into the "stone throwing" conversation of Tn - Mich and who has been the worst this century. Your thread deserved better than the way it has tried to turn.

2007 is really the only decent argument otherwise.
