I believe this comment backfired on butch. Although, I don't believe his intent was slapping Bama in the face. I think it was to say "we will approach them like any other opponent and not get intimidated because they are Bama."

Poor idea in hindsight, but that was my take on it.

Because it worked so well for Gerry DiNardo, who lost all four games he coached at Vandy against the Vols by a combined total of 201 - 39.

That's true and Vandy actually gave us all we could handle from 95-97 when they had coaches that kept their mouths shut and they just played the game.

That is soooo ignorant!! Who is old enough to remember Coach Gerry DiNardo, who pulled that same stunt?

I can remind you how it worked out on game day. They lost their butts and the stands were absent of Vandy fans shortly after half time.

Reading some on their pitiful board, I think their fans would really like for the Vols to embarrass him so badly that he would resign....I remember the 65-0 shellacking and hope that Sat. will be even worse....Can't find anyone on that board who believes that they have a chance - usually there's always one or two with their empty heads who thinks so but not this year...Surely do hope that they are right....

Says the fan of the school who cringes every time they hear the word Auburn....and sends a mercenary to poison there trees...Just playing pal.....but its kind of funny to get a statement like that from a Bama fan whose biggest rival is the type thing that gives college football a bad name....Says my wife who's close (real close) family member coached for 20 plus years at Alabama...

Didn't Butch just refer to Alabama as the "red team" in practice and not in an actual press conference??? Am I misremembering?

Hope the gamemamship isn't working on the team like it is the fans here. Who cares what he says on or off the field? The game is won on the field. Then again, it could be used as an excuse for the drunken college students to act like idiots.

As a former drunken college student I can in all honesty say.....I didn't need much of an excuse to act like an idiot. Hell, we made a game out of making excuses to get drunk and act like idiots.

I enjoyed the 1987 game when Vanderbilt went up 28-3. They thought they would actually win but every Vol fan in the stadium knew how it would end. We put 35 on them in the second half to win of course.
