Dooley took 3 stars and they played like 3 stars.

Butch took 4 and 5 stars and they played like 3 stars.

Butch was obviously a better recruiter but Dooley was a better (still not good) coach

To me its almost like Butch decided jerk the program left into oncoming traffic in an effort to get fired and receive his buyout. I mean how bad can a team play? I just don't believe you could actually try to do you job and it come out this bad. Shoop? What happened to the defensive guru we were hiring for 1 million? Unbelievable!

Is this an S&M thread?

No, it is another So Fing What thread. We've sucked for over 10 years. That's the only stat that matters today. We don't need a breakdown comparison about it, but Hell, it's Catbone. It's what he does.

Then why are you here? I'm only posting factual information, statistics. Personally I thought it was interesting to compare the two.

One of the biggest myths about Butch is that he improved our program and made it more attractive for coaches going forward. Our improved record in 2015 and 2016 was the result of a few great players and a significantly lower level of competition within the SEC East than during Dooley’s tenure. That temporary success was not sustainable and now we are in just as bad, or maybe even a little worse, a situation than when Dooley left.

Two equal losers. This is what I was screaming about at the end of last year and when Dooley lost to KY. When it’s over, it’s over! Fire these guys! Both dragged down the program to record breaking depths their last years. Look all of records these 2 losers set at our program because too many people said..... ‘he needs more time’

2017 is the worst team in UT history and 2018 don't look a lot better.

Dooleys last team could score. This team cant score and cant/wont stop anyone. Scoring Dooleys 49 Joggin Jones 24 (Sinseri defense finds a cast of clowns it can stop)

Derek Fooley was fired on the morning of November 18, 2012, less than 12 hours after a 41-18 loss at Vanderbilt. The Vols went 15-21 during his nearly three seasons at the helm, including a 4-19 mark in SEC play, and no victories over a nationally ranked opponent. Butch Jones was fired on November 12, 2017 less than 12 hours after a 50-17 loss at Missouri. The Vols went 34-27 during his nearly five seasons at the helm, including a 14-24 mark in SEC play. While the Vols did see a few wins over nationally ranked opponents during Jones' tenure, they hit some all time lows in Jones's final season. For the first time in program history, the Vols went winless in conference play. The 0-8 mark in SEC play in 2017 simultaneously gave Tennessee the first 8 loss season in program history. No matter how bad things got in the Fooley era (and things were BAD) not once did the Vols go winless in the SEC or lose 8 games in a single season.

Dooley’s Last team would have beaten Butch’s last team by a few touchdowns.

As much as I don't want to admit it, this is true.

That being said, we have a better stable of player ability than at the end of Dooley's era, and I think that will better prepare us for the next coaching regime, provided they're good player coaches.

I approve this thread because I know there are still deniers out there who insist that over-all Butch was better than Dooley. That was untrue from the day Butch set foot on campus. Who knows what the future holds? Maybe better, maybe even worse. At least now TN has a football mind at the helm.

How hard do you have to try to suck to end up with a record that disgusting at a program with UT's resources?

I don't know if Jones was born a screw up or he had to take lessons but he sure screwed things up good.

Butch was like the crazy girlfriend who will pull the emergency brake, while you are driving, to kill you both. In other words...he didn't give a F***.

and Dooley had Pittman and Chaney hence 18th in offense. And the same 2 are playing for NC next week. But not good enough for the BSIA.
What a maroon.

What a maroon.

And Pittman and Chaney had Ju'Waun James, Zach Fulton, James Stone, and Dallas Thomas to go with Justin Hunter, Mychal Rivera, Coradelle Patterson and Tyler Bray....all of which are in the NFL.

Dooley went 1-7 in the SEC with THAT offense. I know, I know, the defense couldn't stop anyone...still, good grief.

That 2016 team was fire though. Dobbs Barnett Kamara should be remembered with a greater legacy than they have. Butch screwed that up.
