Derek Dooley SEC Media Day

Can you give context on this quote?

The way I read it, is that the wind was let out of the sails. That the coaching staff didn't realize that the injury to Bray would effect the team so much mentally as it did and after thinking about it they should have do e more to help with the transition. I hope that is what you were asking.

:ermm:

Hopefully the Vols performance this year has em begging for one more question this time next year.

Are we flying under the radar, or just irrelevant?

Looks like they all wanted someone to ask if he was going to get fired. Guess national media has more respect than that.

Sounded to me like the last act of defiance...He is just laying it out on the line now and he knows his job is on the line and is depending on the team to take those statements and run with them...I wish him luck...He's going to need it

I've watched a handful of the other coaches do these podium press conferences the last couple days - they are scheduled for 40 minutes each - this was uncomfortably short. I could see Dooley's eyes scanning around the room, almost like he was hoping to field some more questions. It was kind of uncomfortable.

I don't think Dooley is the type to just spew mindless words. I think when he says something like this he means it...and we're gonna have the team to back it up!

He said that losing Lathers, Hunter and then Bray took a major emotional drain on the team. It took away their confidence. He said he should have handled that better. Said we need to get to a point where if one player gets injured, it does not take the team down with it.

Why shouldn't he say this; He knows the expectations are much higher this year. He has absolutely nothing to lose by saying this.

Troll. He actually said that himself. "A little less conversation, a little more action"

why am i a troll for stating what most are thinking. talk means nothing unless you back it up on the field. in 2 years there has been no improvement, so let's see it. i'm sure no coach in america goes into the season wanting to lose.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Honestly I thought the questions were pretty good. Better than most of the ones saban got. Saban was more long winded than cdd too so could have made it shorter.

Honestly sabans response to cdd's hot seat may have prevented cdd from being asked. We have a lot of people on here and the media who think they know it all, but who can say cdd is on the hot seat when saban said he will do well at UT. Hard to push that negative agenda right after that.

I also like what espns guys had to say about it too. Pretty much said there is no reason for the fire to be lit under his seat atp.

In all honesty, there really isn't much for Dooley to say. Everyone is tired of the talking and ready to see results on the field. I think that is safe to say for most of us. Unfortunately, SEC Media day is structured around "talk", not "play".

"Ghost" stated in one of his "pieces" that the team and staff went into "shock" after the injury to Hunter. I am suprised Dooley did not mention that as well.

You wear dresses, don't do?

Most aren't thinking that. Most support Dooley, and the team.

i support dooley and the team. would be happy if he proved me wrong and won 10 plus games this year. i guess i'm just more realistic than the average fan, the numbers just don't support it. haven't seen dooley do anything to change my mind, but i will give him another chance this year. it's not like i'm rooting against the vols for christ sakes. it's time to win some games against the sec's elite.

I like what he said. CDD got alot of heat when he talked about depth issues and said we weren't very good but I think he was just being honest. I think he is being honest now. If CDD is feeling confident and key players are feeling confident the team will feed off that and surprise some people this year.

never said that, but dooley has never won over 8 games anywhere. time to win or time to move on. i think he knows it.

If he had said we still arent there yet depth wise, you would have said "more excuses".

3rd year bro. i think he is out of excuses now. he needs to win, and atleast beat one of the big four we play. if not i don't think it will matter what he says. we could be good, just hopes he proves it on the field.

We know he has to prove it on the field. Not earth shattering info. He is displaying that confidence in his players that a lot of people whined about him putting down. I'm glad he said it. We should all be.

I like the attitude, coach. Now make sure the players believe in it and then prove it on the field.
