This is taken from the link in the Season Wrap Up op:

1 - Sack for*Derek Barnett. The sophomore matched the 10 sacks from a season ago, tying for the seventh-best season in program history. After two seasons, Barnett’s 20 career sacks has him tied with Steve White for eighth on the Tennessee all-time list. He is just one sack away from the top five, and 12 away from Reggie White’s Volunteer record of 32.

Does Barnett match or beat White's record which has stood for over 30 years?

Also, it is great to see how many of our current players are in elite company for school records at their position. Talent and production abounds on our team.

The comparison is real. If Barnett stays healthy and at least maintains production next year he will be among elite company in both Tennessee and SEC history, and this should not be overlooked. I want to give credit to the coaches for helping him develop into a serious weapon defense. I think if I was an opposing offensive coordinator then finding a way to negate what he could do would be a focus of my game plan, similar to how no one threw to suttons side last year.

DB matched last year's total with a gimpy leg for half (at least) of the season this year, I think.

If he stays healthy all year, does he get 12-14 sacks next year?

If Tuttle and Mackenzie are healthy, watch out! He would have eclipsed the 10 sack total this year if Curt would have been healthy past OK.

He's a beast that bleeds orange and is a true VFL in my book!

Reggie was injured a lot prior to his SR year.

Barnett may tie or break the record, but I haven't seen the "next Reggie White" yet.

I love Barnett. But I don't think comparisons to Reggie White are fair. Reggie was one-of-a-kind.

Ok, I'm going to say it. Reggie is one of the best pros to ever play the game. A man among boys. In college me and my friends saw a different side. For a single play he would be dominant, but then he would take several plays off. I saw many games as a student at UT while Reggie was playing but we all would talk about how Reggie wouldn't give any effort for numerous plays. We didn't know if it was conditioning or just laziness. Physically, Reggie was a freak of nature. Barnett on the other hand, gives 100% every single play. He is not the physical specimen that Reggie was but, in my opinion, Barnett is a much better player in college than Reggie. Will it translate into the pros? Who knows? Injuries and such play major factors. The physical attributes of Barnett are very good but Reggie's were great. The last thing, Barnett has a nasty attitude. I love it. Barnett is one of my favorite Vols ever.

If he goes for 12 or 13 next year (very possible with Phillips coming off the edge not to mention all the other monsters on dline) and sticks around for his senior year the entire SEC and UT history books could be rewritten.

I think the chances of him staying for his senior year are slim to none. NFL is already drooling.

Imoho if DB hadn't been held so much he might of broke it this year. I have never seen so many holding call that weren't called in my life. I love DB and would like to see him shatter the Tennessee , SEC, and even the NCAA record. GBO!!!

Barnett would have DOUBLE the sacks this season if the refs stopped letting him be held almost literally every play. Seriously, what is up to that? The amount of times I saw Northwestern hold on number 9 and not once was it called? Wow.

Reggie White is arguably the greatest defensive player in NFL history. There is nothing wrong with Barnett not being as good. He's still a hell of a player.

You can't compare numbers. Reggie played when fewer games were played and bowls didn't count in stats. The raw numbers can't match up. Barnett has a long long way to go to come close to the force that was Reggie.

nobody is really scared to play against Barnett, whereas Reggie White had whole offenses peeing their pants. you fools who claim Reggie loafed some plays are making it up in your heads.

I noticed that too. One time they were showing a replay (focusing on something else) and it looked like a wrestling takedown. The NW guy had his arm wrapped around his shoulder pads and was dragging DB to the ground. No call.

I know one thing...he gets held as much or more than Reggie did, too. The uber-double-team-hold-on-for-your-dear-life way he is played against is incredible.
