Derek Barnett shafted for Bednarik

Finalists for the best overall defensive player award are:

Myles Garrett (30 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 14 tfl)
Jonathan Allen (45 tackles, 7 sacks, 9.5 tfl)
Jabrill Peppers (65 tackles, 4 sacks, 16 tfl, 3 rush td)

For reference:
Barnett (48 tackles, 17tfl, 11 sacks, 1 int).

This really depreciates the value of the award. Barnett deserves to be there. Nonetheless, he's gonna get his payday real soon. Gonna miss this guy for sure.

that Barnett was left off the list!

GO VOLS!!!

I should mention that 4.5 of Myles Garrett's 8.5 sacks came against UT-San Antonio. All 11 of DB's sacks came against SEC competition.

It's really a frustrating thing; the obsession with Garrett has surpassed unreal status. From what I've seen, the guy has NFL bust written all over him.

Agreed. For whatever reason, Garrett just doesn't get it done against top competition. He better hope he goes to a team that plays the Browns twice a year.

true? I'm writing the Maxwell Football Club to complain and am going to cite this and the other tackle/sack totals for Barnett and the others posted by somebody else.

He'll get his payback on NFL draft day when he's selected far above the others.

His 1st NFL contract will also pay him LOTS more $$$$ than the others get.

Our VFL will do much better in the NFL than the others will do.

WIN out boys!

VFL...GBO!!!

If Barnett played for Alabama he would be the media darling and would be a finalist for the heisman. Because he plays for TN he is completely ignored and even left off lists in favor of guys with half the production

I used your material and emailed College Gameday. Not that it will do any good, but now we know that the Bednarik is as bogus as the heisTman award.

What's more impressive about Barnett's numbers is that most of the time he is getting a double team or they are running the play away from his side. And he still gets in there. Many of our team sacks are a result of Barnett's disruptions and the extra attention he gets.

I agree with Allen and Peppers. Garrett getting it because of his hype coming out of hs and his hype from past couple years is bs. He barely even played this year. Garrett is a great player and might be better than Barnett, but when he's been hurt all year, and Barnett has far superior stats, you can't put him in over Barnett. Just another biased individual award like the Heisman to write off as meaningless.

Nothing in Garrett's career performance on the field remotely supports an opinion that he is better than Barnett!

Barnett's numbers against SEC competition are WAY better than Garrett's.....his not making the finals is pure horse-pucky!

Easily the best player since Berry and arguably better than Berry.

I agree he has great stats against SEC opponents, but why was he unable to get sacks against any of our non-SEC foes? He should have been way ahead of the Minister of Defense by now in career sacks. I know the Bednarik is a season award, but Barnett is also the first SEC player to have double digit sacks in three consecutive seasons.

I was about to say quit being a homer and then I look at the stats. He deserves to be a finalist. It's going to Peppers. ESPN is pushing him to be a Heisman contender.

So, how does one player that has more tackles, tfl, sacks in the same conference as one of the finalist not get put on the list? #rigged

Ridiculous that Barnett isn't there.

I'd be willing to bet money that Garrett wins it, even having not played the year, and having far inferior stats to others. The media has been on his jockstrap since day 1

This is as bad as JRM getting snubbed in the AA voting. Barnett is one of, if not the best defenders in the country. Feels like 1997 all over again.
