i agree. i truly think it will be a strength on our team

I dunno if I would say that because there is still a lot that the players have to learn and adjust to in a small amount of time (the two jucos and berry) but talent is not a problem. BTW Inky would have played in the NFL had he not gotten hurt. Who cares if he was a 2 star that just means they scouted well.

The depth chart doesn't include ANY new players that haven't arrived on campus.

Obviously. Don't worry Mckenzie and Willingham will have significant PT if not starting jobs. Otherwise Fulmer wouldn't have used 2 scholarships on jucos. And based on Berry and the juco's recruiting rankings if the guys already on the depth chart are good enough to beat them out then recruiting becomes a moot point anyways.

early in the season, it might be a weakness, but by the end of the season, i think it will be very very good

You don't need to reaffirm me on McKenzie and Willingham, HV and the rest of us were pencilling it in during February.

I misinterpreted why you were frustrated. I thought you were upset that the depth chart in the 1st post of this thread didn't have the new guys.

It pisses me off when people leave off players like him. Not to mention Nevin Mckenzie and Deangelo Willingham. UT has had plenty of highly recruited defensive backs.

You need to read the entire thread. Thats already been discussed and everyone is expecting those 3 players to start over the current players listed in the depth chart.

The depth chart is simply from this spring with current players. Those 3 won't join the team until fall practice.

No you said Slade couldn't recruit. That's exactly what you said. This year's class includes several fine defensive backs that Slade helped recruit, thus invalidating your point. And they actually join practice in a couple days.

I also said Trooper Taylor recruited McKenzie and Berry, and Greg Adkins recruited Willingham. Slade didn't recruit any of the DB's you mentioned.

UT just hasn't been able to recruit as well in the secondary as the rest of the team. Another one of the reasons I'm not high on Slade.

Per Rivals
Antonio Gaines 2 star
Marsalous Johnson 3 star
Kemp 2 star
Parrish 3 star
Sinclair Cannon 3 star
Hefney 4 star
Wardlow 3 star

Fortunately UT has some good prospects coming in like Berry, Willingham and McKenzie. 4 star prospects or above. Trooper did a great job recruiting Berry and McKenzie. Adkins recruited Willingham. So far Adkins has done well as a recruiting coordinator.

I hope these guys can play immediately.

Slade recruited at other positions including Donald Langley and Brent Vinson. Vinson will probably start at reciever this fall I'd say that's a pretty big recruiting contribution.

Vinson committed 2 years ago, and didn't qualify last year. Those players normally aren't hard to resign.

Slade is not a very good recruiter. He usually recruits less players then most of the other coaches on Fulmer's staff. Trooper is the best.

The bottom line is, when Fulmer really wants to land a recruit, he assigns Trooper, Brooks or Adkins.

he recruited Vinson last year too, and he'll end up being the best player out of the 2006 class I guarantee it.

The problem with the whole thing is you blamed an apparent lack of talent in the secondary (which there won't be) on Slade. The coaches don't just recruit their positions therefore whether Slade can recruit or not has no corrolation whatsoever to the talent in the defensive backfield. That's the only point I was making.

Seems like the kids we are bringing in have good character. Art Evans enrolled early, Eric Berry wouldn't be so highly ranked if he didn't have great character, and I haven't heard anything bad about the rest of the bunch that would lead me to believe they will cause trouble off the field. Of course I never thought anything about Morley and look what happened to him.
