Shall we start a pool to guess what the final cost for "Star Wars Redux" will be?

Dollars to doughnuts that a major contributor to Trump, or someone who he stands to otherwise financially benefit from, is behind this. The idea to resurrect this did not just come out of nowhere.

Correct. He campaigned for this issue all last year leading up to his 2024 landslide victory in November.

So, you are all for us spending endless amounts of money to defend Ukraine, but this, you have a problem with? Partisan hack much.

I've never stated that I would give them "endless amounts of money", what I have said, is that I would give them any weapon they asked for, that they could actually use, short of nuclear weapons.

Whether we chose to spend money to replace those weapons, no I don't care. In fact, given I would suggest that we don't spend the money to replace the weapons we've given them.

1) Irrelevant. Someone still planted the notion in his noggin' to pursue it. Someone or some entity is still promoting it to him. I again assert it is almost certainly someone or some entity from whom he has received money, or is led to believe he will receive money. (Don't misunderstand, he may genuinely believe its a good idea. But its coming from somewhere).

2) Irrelevant. That he discussed this along with 30 other things in campaign speeches doesn't mean he has some mandate to do it that we are all bound by. Indeed, by that logic he has already broken whatever "contract" was there by breaking numerous campaign pledges.

Clearly, Musk is that guy you are referring to in #1.....

Possible. But concerning.

1) Musk launches Starlink satellites seems like every hour on the hour.

2) Musk wants to tie the satellites into our defenses?

There's about 4 companies capable of this type project and all 4 have enough R Senators on their payroll to get this to a vote.

The question will how many R Senators have the fortitude to say "No" to more spending...

75% of this board has no issues with the DOD not passing a finanical audit for a decade and giving them another quarter trillion annually....

Just because the man won doesn't mean that we have to support everything that he mentioned in a campaign speech.
True in that not everyone has to support it, but some are implying he rolled out of the bed last week and came up with this notion. It was originally proposed by Reagan, spoken on frequently, and in the Republican party platform.

I said it back in February. Musks involvement was ONLY a government contract grab. 100%. He knew his political activity the previous year was going to hurt the bottom line on his businesses.

I long for a world where people don't assume what they read on social media from randos is true.

Intelligent people should assume everything they read on twitter is bullsh*t, until it's borne out with citations, links or other verifiable sources.
But what if the verifiable sources aren't your verifiable sources!?!?

For reference I look at probably 8,000+ transactions a week in a single agency. I also highly doubt the totals reached $40B, because as far as I know literally nobody can drop $5M on a purchase card (transaction limit is usually $10K).

It'll end up costing trillions and never reach IOC or fire a missile. The only winners will be the major defense contractors.

Still waiting for Rs to reduce spending - you know the thing we voted them in for? Any DOGE cuts have been replaced with significant increases in spending.

More concerned with:
Beyond the transactions flagged by the OIG, Comer and Ernst are now requesting a comprehensive accounting of government credit card charges linked to:

  • Cruise lines
  • Lottery ticket purchases
  • Wigs and toupees
  • Weight loss programs
  • Jewelry
  • Horoscopes and fortune telling
  • Boats and campers
  • Golf and country club memberships
  • Amusement parks
  • Bail bond services
While the lawmakers acknowledged that certain expenses—like bail bonds—may have some justification in specific law enforcement scenarios, they raised concerns that federal credit cards are increasingly being misused for personal or entertainment expenses at taxpayer expense.

Listening to the MSM you would think DOGE is just harvesting data and funneling money to themselves ...

From the article"

After 11 weeks, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has hit a milestone in its major cleanup initiative to remove more than 12.3 million names of Social Security number holders whose dates of birth make them over 120 years old.

Earlier this year, DOGE chief Elon Musk warned of millions of Social Security recipients well over the age of 100 who were still collecting benefits.

There has been considerable speculation that the outdated or fraudulent Social Security numbers have less to do with collecting illicit benefits and more to do with getting otherwise illegal individuals set up to vote in U.S. elections.

Either way, the confusion at the SSA is a solid example of what happens when government agencies run on autopilot for decades.

Your link even points out that anyone over 115 is not getting paid so linking the 2 is dishonest
