"I had narrowed it down to three schools, but coach Kiffin called me yesterday and told me I had an opportunity to be a part of something special at Tennessee," Hurst said.

On Eric Berry..
"I watched him a couple of times this year," Hurst said. "I know it would raise my play. He was a Thorpe finalist and I'm sure he demands a lot from his teammates. It would be great to play along side of him."

Will probably visit the 30th.

I read Hurst's name in an article this past week. I don't remember if it was Scout/Rivals or perhaps an article through a newspaper search, but it said UT had interest in Hurst and it'd be a matter of time before they approached him.

I do find it odd that they just now contacted him. I mean they've been incredibly busy, but it really speaks volumes about the level of confidence Lane has.

It's either unbelievable confidence or a case of "what's the worst that can happen?"

I mean if he offers to a kid late in the game and he says, Thanks, but no thanks," there's no substantial time lost. If it's just a matter of picking up a phone and dialing it makes sense.

I like the intro of the article---

"If you look at the Rivals player profile for Lancaster, Texas defensive back Demontre Hurst, you won't see Tennessee listed anywhere. That's because the Vols haven't been in the picture. At least until this weekend, when Hurst got a call from the Tennessee staff."

You could say that about over a dozen prospects!

TN's staff is moving too fast for any single outlet to keep up!

I've been refreshing the news sites--doing term searches, along with refreshing Rivals & Scout for a while now and you have to fight and claw to even scratch the surface on the depths these guys are going to, in order to electrify this program.

I remembered where it was---Hubbs at VQ mentioned UT getting into the mix with Hurst in addition to rumors that Lane & Monte's arrival has caused Nico Johnson (an Alabama commitment) to reconsider TN as a possible college destination. Nico looked great at the Army game, but again---it's a longshot.

"Actually I talked to Tennessee yesterday," Hurst said. "I talked to coach Lane Kiffin and his dad. I talked to a number of their guys yesterday. They have a great tradition and good school. I'm hoping to learn more about them."

"We talked about visiting yesterday," Hurst said. "I have visits set up for the 16th and 23rd. I don't have anything on the 30th and we talked about that weekend. I really want to check out coach Kiffin. My secondary coach has been telling me about the history of Kiffin and his dad Monte. I don't think I'll be committed before then so I might have a different mindset after I check them out. My coach has been telling me about the Tampa 2 and coach Kiffin told me they are going to get it turned around."

explain something to me. whenever i see high school games on TV, they say that on a kickoff a ball in the end zone is an automatic touchback--it can't be returned.

BUT---Hurst's stats list a long return on the year of 108 yards. there's a clip on his highlight reel which begins with him holding the ball in the endzone and he turns it for a score. you don't see the ball kicked/punted.

are Texas high school rules different from everyone else? last year on TV, i saw high school broadcasts from TN, GA, KY, OH, and CA---I don't recall anyone returning a kick from their own endzone.
