2008 Secondary

CB M Johnson
CB B Vinson
FS E Berry
SS D Morley

Not bad

How about:

CB M Johnson
CB B Vinson
FS E Berry
SS D Willingham

I know Willingham is a corner but at 6'0" 200lbs with corner speed I think he would make an excellent SS...

And this way we don't have to speculate on who will be here and who won't....barring anything unforseen, these guys are defintely back

Berry, other than 2 interceptions, hasn't done any more that johnson or vinson. I recall him getting beat quite a few times on corner and safety. Vinson will be fine, as will Berry, Johnson, and Morley. Morley in his first year was just as impressive as Berry has been so far.

"All he was good for were a few solid hits which resulted in pass-breakups and an INT every now-and-then" You could be describing Morley or Berry right there. Both were freshmen thrown into the SEC. Both will be fine.

If you watch Berry, he is all over the field, AND he knows how to tackle. He's has soooo much talent, and we're lucky to have himl!

I think it looks like this:

CB - Vinson
CB- Willingham
SS - Morely
FS - Berry

This is the best combination of size, speed, and raw talent. All of the mentioned players are at least 6 feet tall, and 3 of them have clocked sub 4.4 speeds.

Willingham will become even better next year for us, reminds me of Julian Battle, could be a lockdown type of guy.

Vinson will improve alot and start making plays. I'll bet eventually he will be a shutdown corner.

Morely is just an athelete, we don't need him riding the pine if he does make it back. He just needs to improve his mental game a little.

Berry. What can you say. The guy could play WR, CB, Safety, LB, RB, or QB. I think he is a smart kid that would do very well quarterbacking the secondary from the FS position.

I like that too, good suggestion. I would be fine with you using a 4-2-5 base defense and play 5 DB's. More teams now use 3 and 4 WR sets. The defenses need to evolve too. To me that's part of Chavis's problem, he's resistant to change.

Saying that Berry hasn't done anything more than than Johnson or Vinson is just plain ridiculous. He's one of the main reasons we won against South Carolina and another reason why UT had a reason to get back into the Fla game(barring Foster's fumble.)

I will say this about Berry. When was the last time a player for ut has been so hyped in the pre-season and actually lived up to the expectations? It's been awhile.

I would rather have Berry as FS because that is what he played on D in HS. Morley is talented and maybe he has improved his brain skills for the secondary. Willingham, Vinson, and Johnson will all drastically improve for next season. It would also help a lot if we got a new secondary coach.

Vinson, Willingham, Berry have all the physical attributes to comprise a good secondary. Speed, quickness, agility, even size. But at this point its hard to say how good they will be. It all comes down to the mental aspect of the game. Even now, there is nothing physical holding back our secondary. Our secondary is as good as any secondary in the SEC in physical attributes. Let's hope Berry develops into a leader back there too.

I think a new secondary coach would be a great idea. But that is not happening as long as Fulmer is in charge.

Didn't say he wasn't talented, or wouldn't be a great player. However, Morley impressed me just as much as Berry has so far at Safety.

IMO, CPF is back barring a 6 loss season. I think the bar should have been 10 wins but realistically that wouldn't get past the politics and buyout. OTOH, every loss that occurs while the defensive scheming and adjustments look so incompetent increases the chance that some defensive coaches will be sacrificed.

I don't think CPF will get to say "no" unless this defense really begins to pick it up for the last 4-6 games.

It may be Slade... it needs to be Chavis. My wish would be for MH to do it privately by suggesting he call in a marker and quit to take a position coaching job in the NFL.

Or just grow a pair and tell CPF that if he wants to remain the head coach of UT..Chavis and his defensive staff have to go....And if you want to remain the hfc for this University win the BCS and restore this team!

I personally don't want the DL coach to go. The last two years he's done quite a bit with not much.

My suggestion was based on the notion that it would be better for the program and especially recruiting if it looked like Chavis "promoted himself" to the NFL rather than getting fired.

If MH did that, i would lose all faith in his ability to make good, effective decisions. that would be the worst thing Hamilton could do, and stupid.

Well I have a feeling that is what's coming....MH is not going to fire Phil, instead he will try and make him retire by giving him an altimatum (sp) to cut ties with the Chief...Just MO.....I agree its stupid, but thats the way I see it
