Let me first apologize to the mods if this is the wrong forum for this thread, but how do you all define a "troll"?

Any rival fan, in spite of contributing to the discussion without being inflammatory?

A rival fan who points out or corrects inaccurate posts about your team by the locals, or has a completely different opinion from the natives?

A rival fan who only posts in threads about their team?

A rival fan who returns an unfriendly post from the natives with one of their own?

What sayeth VolNation?

A troll is a supernatural being in Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore. In origin, one of the meanings of the term troll was a negative synonym for a jötunn (plural jötnar), a being in Norse mythology, although the word was also used about witches, berserkers and various other evil magical figures. In Old Norse sources, beings described as trolls dwell in isolated rocks, mountains, or caves, live together in small family units, and are rarely helpful to human beings.

some moons ago there was a website called fireronzook.com. Of course this was back in a bleak era of UF football. Once it was made public that this site existed, I went over there to see all the fun and ended up posting. Of course a few times I was trying to rub salt in your wounds but many times I agreed with some of the gator posters. It didnt matter - anything thing I said, pro or con UF, I was a troll. Dont feed the trolls was posted.

So using the definition set out by your own kind a troll for a sports forum is any fan of another team who post on a rivals web site. Whether your're here to provocate or not, you're still a troll.

IMO, some poster from another team/rival who causes trouble and talks trash.

A douchebag that cant seem to find his own teams websites.

uncalled for.. there are bigger douchebags that call themselves "vol fans" that post here. i think there are a lot of posters from rival teams that bring better info, and are better conversation that some of the shmucks on this board.

You definitely aren't a troll. You bring better information, thoughts, and ideas to this board to 80% of Vol Fans. You, HG, MiamiCane, Tide Warrior, and a couple of others are always welcomed. A troll to most VolNation users is anyone who disagrees with them, whether rival or not. Being a rival is just another point they pick out. But what I really consider a troll is someone who type's out jackass comments, and non-intellectual ideas, while downing Tennessee football. Of course, this is called Volnation.com, right? Trolls should just go to their teams board to down us. I can't really blame them, because this is the best sports/fan related blog/forum there is on the internet. Go Vols.

A poster who comes to the site with the sole intent of a negative impact and to create controversy. I have no problem with rival fan coming to this site.

The ones who don't discuss anything, rather just take shots at UT.

Also the ones that refuse to abandon their own bias or agenda as if this were their team's site.

I define one as: an opposing team's fan whom only posts on a board to make silly remarks and/or to stir people up. Trolls, in my opinion, don't contribute anything to the board other than smack talk or to start an argument.

I know I'll get killed for this, but I don't view you, 99gator or Law as trolls. For the most part, you guys post your differing opinions and bring perspective, at least to this Vol. I want to know what other fan bases think of us and our chances this year. I think this, or any, board can get stale if all you have are sunshine pumpers and "whoa is me/we suck" posters of the same fan base on here all the time.

Now do I agree with all of your posts? NO. Do I want to UT to kick some Gator @$$ this year? Absolutely. But you're not a troll.

According to Urban Dictionary...

5. troll

1. A large, brutish creature of European myth, often lacking in intelligence. Sometimes compared to the Japanese oni.
2. A dumbass who makes idiotic posts in message boards newsgroups for the sole purpose of pissing people off, often lacking in intelligence. Sometimes compared to people who pass you by on the sidewalk then grab you in inappropriate places.

1. "AAAAAAHH, it's a troll!"
"Protect the women and children! Grab your torches!"
2. "AAAAAAHH, it's a troll!"
"****head... we banned him five times and he keeps making new accounts about how he pwns all and that he>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>j00!"

Yeah, I'll be the first one to jump on here that 99 is an absolute fruitcake. Just look at his ratings on the "girls of" threads and my point is made. Law repeatedly states KY this and that and other nonsense about personnel and the like. That is trolling in my book. I would not classify Wright as a troll, just a vol deep inside that knows he is on the dark side and wants to be right.
