First: Hats off to the defense bouncing back. 215 yards, 0-11 on third downs and a 'should-have-been-if-Dormady-didn't-fumble' shutout. Would love a little aggressive play-making from linebackers (except Bituli... he good)... But will wait til next week when we go back to our base D to judge.

BUT I can't believe no one is talking about our D-Tackles. NO ONE is running up the middle. I think that the D Line as a hole gets a B at this point and the Tackles get an A.

Great to see some big boys upfront kill the run up the middle both games. It's been a while since we have looked this good.

Benson from Georgia Tech ran up the middle...a few hundred times

And except Vickers 3 tackles against Indiana State & mmckenzies 1 tackle was it for the DT this game. Tuttle played 12 snaps no tackles Piccou may have had 1 not sure

I'm not going to explain How the interior DLine works to you re tackles comment, but before I answer the question for you.... How many of Techs and Indana states 660 yards came through the middle of out line?

Your big on stats I see, so this should be easy

He has a point. The real issue has been perimeter defense

Did you watch the Tech game. The middle is where they were having their success. TN had the edges shut down on the first two drives so Paul Johnson made adjustments and began running up the middle. The floodgates then opened.

In State does not run up the middle with their offensive scheme. Plus, they are barely above high school level. I'd hope SEC DTs could shut down the middle on IN State.

Why run up the middle when you can run around the entire defense ? opponents can get to the edge real easy with jumper and kongbo in the game . Phillips is a very good DE and has much more upside. Staff ruined kongbo when they stuffed 60pounds on him and tried to stick him at DT .

OUTSIDE OF DARREL TAYLOR, this defense is SOFT...nobody wants to hit anybody and they all cant get off blocks to face a man head on.... as they wait until the ball carrier goes by for a chase down tackle.......

Good grief. This defense doesn't do anything good.

They did get off the field yesterday on third down but this is a losing FCS - 1AA team. That's to be expected against that competition.

UT can't get a push from thier tackles, the ends dont contain, the corners don't cover, and the middle linebacker isn't very fast.

Not to mention in passing situations they get very little type pressure on the QB.

They give up far too many yards and plays.

Per Brady Hoke, Kongbo is up to 275 which is only 10-15 lbs above where he was when he arrived on campus.

They all look like recruiting busts to me. BH said back in the summer that they had a long way to go but no one wanted to believe him.

For some reason Albert Haynesworth had complete opposite opinion for our Dline !! I am aligned with his opinion for now.

For some reason, the defense is not attacking or aggressive. It could be personnel, coaching or disguising a weakness, but there has to be a solid reason. Second, the interior D-Line is lining up 1-2 yards of the ball, then we are engaged 'high'. A QB sneak is good for 3-4 yards each time.

On the line-up, I do not remember this being an issue last season, so this is change from standard.

When was the last time that our Defense dominated an Alabama or a Florida under any coach? Or was General Neyland's era, the last time our Defense dominated nearly everybody on our schedule for several years in a row?

In 2014, Florida only scored 10 points against Tennessee and had 76 yards passing - Florida still won.

In 2015, Tennessee's defense played very well against Alabama until the 4th quarter. We had a 14-13 lead late in the game.

Maybe we were too hard on Jancek?

He got up to 285 last year. That was only about 30 pounds heavier than when he got on campus. Slimmed down a bit to play DE this year.

1. When evaluating our defense, don't read too much into GT and their hard to train for offense.

2. Our guys were still recovering from that GT game.

3. DTs aren't going to make a lot of tackles unless they are super special. But they can clog up the interior and prevent a lot of the blocks on LBs due to DL requiring double teams.

4. I have a feeling we didn't show a lot against InSt because we want to keep FL guessing.

5. We have had 2 games to work out the kinks in our Defenses, FL has had only 1 game.

6. We are still breaking in Dkjr and Austin Smith replacements.

7. Tuttle will be at full strength soon.
