Defensive Statistics-Game 1

I have not seen an official breakdown of defensive stats from Game 1 vs NC State. So I took the time to go back and watch each play on Defense. *Disclaimer, these may not be completely accurate numbers, but its the best I could come up with so please dont hate.

Also, If this has been posted before, I missed it so feel free to merge.

Tackles
Randolph-9, Moore-8, Couch-6, Smith-4, Maggitt, Lathers, Teague, Pswag, &Brewer-3, Johnson, Gordon & Sapp-2, Sentimore, Miller, and SEC umpire-1

Assists
Maggitt, Randolph, and Lathers-3, Couch, Smith, Teague, Johnson, McCullers, &COleman-1

Tackles for Loss
Sapp-2, Maggitt, Randolph, Gordon-1

Pressure (My definition is getting pressure on QB, not sure what actual definition is)
Smith, J-4, Sentimore-3, Maggitt, Lathers, Miller-2, Moore, Randolph, Gordon, and Johnson-1

Interceptions
Moore, Teague, Gordon, and Pswag-1

Forced fumbles
Maggitt and Couch-1

Passes broken up
Teague, Johnson, McCullers, and Pswag

Special teams Tackles
Moore-2, Randolph, Gordon, Fugate, Brewer, Wilks, and Palardy-1

Cant help but notice Randolph and Moore were in beast mode the whole game. Overall, I didnt see many weaknesses in the D. McCullers did his job, though he doesnt have many stats to show for it. We put alot of pressure on Glennon all night. For me, the best thing to see was that there weren't many solo tackles. The entire D has been trained to get to the ball. This was very good to see. I'll hang up and listen.

our backfield is going to be sick this year they really needed a coaching change conklin and ansley are gonna be great coaches back their:rock:

I havent heard Randolphs name mentioned as a star for our defensive unit. Not bad for a 3 star recruit. Thats a helluvalot of production from a sophomore safety.

He's a stud. And was underrated by the services. He has all the tools and will be a stud this year and hopefully the 2 that follow after it.

Moore miss some tackles and blew an assignment also, just before Brewer playing lumberjack on a tailback....

So Tennessee "pressured" Glennon on ~35% of his pass attempts. He was sacked once. Is that considered getting heavy pressure on the QB?

It seemed like it when I was watching, but a lot of people on here were complaining about our lack of pressure, so who knows?

It should be noted that Glennon is a pretty good QB and would usually get rid of the ball pretty quick.

Glennon's 4 picks show he was never really comfortable after about the 1st Quarter.

Don't know if I'd call it "heavy" but we seemed to be in Glennons head as the game wore on. Considering he didn't stand in the pocket for long, as a general rule, and threw a few quick routes, it was better than the past couple years. The defense defended the entire field well I thought. Consistent pressure, tipped balls, PBU's, interceptions...I'll take it.

4 ints. 1 safety. 1 sack. 1 lateral just before being sacked. Maggitt said that they got to Glennon 12 times. Sounds like pressure.

We were putting the heat on more as the game wore on. That is evident in the stats. THe more games we play, the better the D will get. I like Sunseri's D.

To hell with percentages. Watch the game and you can see we were pretty hard after Glennon. How many balls did he have to get out of his hands before he wanted to for incomplete passes? The only success Glennon had was when our DB's blew an assignment. That was well over a 100 yards of his passing yards.

I'm not saying we didn't get pressure on him. We got some pressure on him. But I certainly wouldn't call it heavy. (Unless you are comparing it to the pressure we put on QBs last year). By SEC standards, it was not heavy.

One defensive play that sticks out for me is the safety. It looked like Glennon thought he had time to dump the ball, but Maggit put the afterburners on and did a cheetah pounce. I like the fact that Sal has these guys coming out just looking for somebody to punch in the mouth.

Did ladarrell McNeil get any playing time against NCST? I knew there was a lot of hype about him this spring and summer

They got to him enough to mess with his game substantially. He threw, what, 12 INTs last year and had 4 in one game? I'll take that any day of the week.

Golf....were you "in the bag" at the game? Glennon may have only been sacked once but he was having to move around a lot got knocked down repeatedly. what I saw from my couch was pressure....maybe not as much as we'd like to see....but he was being harassed and disrupted....by the way.....I would have been "in the bag" had I been there

I was really pleased with Eric Gordon's game. He was very solid. His pick was awesome, and I just remember seeing him wrapping that guy up on Darr's first punt. He was down there quicker than the ball was.

Overall, I was pleased with his play, as well as Sapp's. Sapp did a really good job of hopping into the situation for the long haul of the game. He got pressure on Glennon twice I think (I know he put his facemask between Glennon's shoulderblades on one pressure). The defense was fun to watch. Some issues with their TE's getting open on seams down the middle, but for the most part, it was a consistent effort, and the Run D looked very solid.

If you force 4 picks from one of the top 10 QB's in the nation the pressure was heavy by any standards...
