A lot has been made of the defensive effort and holding UF to under 250 yards/Tebow under 100 passing. Having watched the game and reviewed the stats, the real explanation for the "lack of offensive output" was simply a lack of need for many yards.

First half: UF 3 real possessions, two of which started on our side of the field. Results: TD, FG, FG. The only time they needed a long drive, they got it. Toss in a punt return TD = 20 points.

Second half: we start with a 3-and-out, punt them deep and actually stop the UF offensive for the only time of the game (aside from a meaningless 4th quarter possession), only to go 3-and-out again, punt, and give up another TD drive that started on our own end of the field.

In summary, UF drives (including punt return):

TD
FG
TD
FG
(half)
Punt
TD
FG
Downs
(end)

Point is: don't be too quick to give the defense credit. There is simply no horn to toot on this Tennessee team.

When an offense starts on Tennessee's side of the 50 yard line, a field goal is a victory for the D on that drive IMO.

And they had a short field just about every time 40 yards or less. Take that away and just maybe we limit them to two touchdowns.

Urban for once called off the dogs. They toyed with us in the second half. Secondary has improved from last year. Other than that not much else has changed or improved. Were on the worst three year run for a defensive line that i can remember. In fact i can't remember a more average line under john chavis. In the past we at least had one or two guys up there that could be disruptive.

With all the problems AU has had on offense it would be really bad if they all of a sudden turn into world beaters against us.I'm not saying that is gonna happen. However, when it comes to this coaching staff anything is possible.

I'd say our secondary has improved a little but from what was fielded last year the only way to go is up.

I wonder on each of those drives, how many times did we have Florida in a 3rd and long situation?

8 times total, we had UF in 3rd and 5 or longer:

Converted 4-8:
1 TD to Harvin
3 first downs
2 FGs on 4th
1 punt
1 turnover on downs after running Tebow and then the RB late in the 4th

We are 45% in stopping third down conversions and Auburn is 65% in stopping third down conversions. That speaks volumes to me on where our defense stands. If I recall correctly, we had Florida deep inside their ten and tebow ran three consecutive QB runs and got a first down and went on to score on that drive. Not good IMO. A decent defense yes, a great defense....not so much

disruptive is right! it has been a long time since we've had playmakers on defense, and a lot longer on offense. the talent is there we just don't have anyone who knows how to extract it. is it because that the organization is full of "yes" men, and if things get really bad then they can blame the oc and sc him with the blame and bonustize the remainder and say we found the problem and it will be better next year. while the fleecing goes on!

our tackles has been terrible for the last decade, our secondary is always towards the bottom against the pass and it seems our 3rd down conversion scheme is basically "lift skirt and insert here"

i disagree. it is more like "drop drawers and bend over."
