Defense Next Year

I feel that our defense will see a huge improvement(Not hard I know) next season under a decent coordinator.

If we switch back to the 4-3 our starters should look like this:

SDE: Corey Miller
DT: Couch
DT: McCullers
WDE: Jordan Williams

MLB: AJ Johnson
SLB: Harris/Bynum/Lewis/or a freshman
WLB: Hoping for a healthy Maggitt but if not one of the SLB options

CB: Bonner/Thomas/Orta(competition)
CB: Gray/Coleman/Orta(competition)
FS: Hope a healthy Randolph if not JRM
SS: McNeil

Now a lot of this depends on Maggitt and Randolph but the defense will be a lot better in the trenches. Which is why I believe we'll be better as a defense. Reserve D-Linemen: Omari Phillips, Trent Taylor, Saulsberry, O'brien, and Jac Smith. Now I won't say this is a world beater D-line but hell that's at least some legit SEC talent up front.

We need a different mentality on defense and some impact guys. But I think as a unit we can at the least be better than a Vandy unit that's a Top 20 unit.

Also a kid like Vonn Bell could change the secondary depth chart in a hurry. And we truly need Zanca, Campbell, and another big-time LB to come in ready to compete.

I dont care what scheme we run, anyone with a pulse should be able make our defense better than its been this year.

I'd personally like to see Maggitt drop down to DE in a 4-3. He seems like he would be a really good edge rusher. I could see mccullers and sentimore filling up the middle well too.

Moore, Gordon, and Toney aren't on that list.

Gordon should play nothing but gunner on STs for us.

No let him stay at LB. He's best when he's allowed to not be touched. Our LBs don't shed blocks consistently well. Now you let a guy like Maggitt not get touched a lot and he'll make a lot of plays for us.

He would fit in well if he was in school. Word is he has bad grades.

I want to play good, fast, physical defense like right now. I think with our personnel we'll have the 4-3 gives us the best depth and value for what we have talent wise.

Agreed, his best game since NC State was Missouri where he stood up and spied Franklin until he tore his ACL.

I agree. If you have the big bodies then you run a 3-4. We got the big boys last year and time in the conditioning program will pay dividends next year.

What about the LBs to run it? We don't have a lot of SEC talent in the LB corp.

This would give us the best lineup that we have IMO.... If we get any more JUCO guys in, or players improve a lot or there are injuries then it could change.......

Eric Gordon, Maggitt, and Brewer can be good players if they are playing the right positions and use better technique. Maggitt was hurt was he was seriously out of position frequently.....

Certain guys aren't as good as the Orange fans want to make them out to be. Certain players were just plain busts from an athletic standpoint. I think as fans we make certain guys be impact players in our minds because they've made one play. Certain guys just can't get it done play after play.

Yes I agree.... Our best defensive lineup in SEC average at best..... Our quality depth is very low, especially at LB and DB.... It will take great defensive coaches to give us an average D IMO.....

Big Mac and Sentimore may be gone. Lots of NFL intrigue with the big nose guard, and Sentimore's grades are a HUGE concern...

This. I don't think our DL has been the problem with the 3-4 as much as the LBs.
