UCLA's defense in 2005 was probably on par with the one UT is fielding this season. They fired Larry Kerr and brought in DeWayne Walker. The D still had some weaknesses, but Walker masked them pretty well. They were a top 30 defense in 2006. Our defense is not permanently broken. There's someone out there that can correct it. Whoever it is doesn't reside in Knoxville.
Actually, if we play our cards right and use this week to start preparing for Arkansas (La-Laf is terrible) we should run the table untill the Kentucky game. Then we simply have to outscore them in a shootout.
As bad as it was, our D was still trying in the end, unlike the Bama and Florida disasters.
The defense is very suspect, but the point remains there are a couple of freshmen starting in the backfield due to injuries. Just saying.....
:stop:I personally would prefer that Chavis start over with a new defense somewhere else besides Tennessee.:angel:We did make some adjustments at halftime,we fell asleep or apart, which ever you prefer to call it. Chavis needs to totally start over again with this defense. Its called coaching. To many missed tackles, too much cushion on pass defense.
You can throw on UT all night long. That is not a problem that has just recently come about as a result of having a couple freshmen in the backfield. You've always been able to throw on us. Go back and look at season after season. Other teams always have receivers that are WF open, no one within 5-10 yards of them. You can connect on 10 yard passes anytime you want on us. Beginning of the 4th quarter it seems we automatically go into some type of bizarro prevent defense and let people just march right down field. Simple fact, our D Backs suck. Year after year. Common denominator, the coaching. Doesn't matter if you've got two freshmen or not.
