Our defense left a lot to be desired. Secondary coverage except for Sutton was horrible, but that was secondary to what scares me the most. We had virtually no pass rush. I had expected our defensive ends to not give their quarterback any breathing room. :dunno:

If I might be so bold, our defensive formations and schemes seemed to be so vanilla that their quarterback knew what to do on almost all pass plays. It appeared as if we were posting signs on the sidelines showing our formations, stunts and coverages.

I hope and pray the vanilla nature of our schemes was intentional so as to not show anything to Oklahoma. :crossfingers:

I would be remiss if I failed to compliment our offense. Looks like we finally have a respectable running game again. :thumbsup:

It is very hard to sub amd play anything but man defense with an offense that is that fast paced. Their QB threw some eye opening throws and the WRs caught EVERYTHING thrown their way. This BGSU team is actually very sound and talented on offense. They should when the MAC which is deceptively a decent conference of high octane offemses and good coaches.....

I'm not making excusses though. If you are forced to play man defense for the majority of the game, you had better have the rigjt men to man up. Not sure Moseley can do that. He got roasted the entire night. I mean literally roasted. The one doing the roasting was an Ohio State transfer, I was told.

Would have liked to see more cover 2 and 3 last night.

Not getting decent pressure was the main culprit though...

When it's 21-20 and a team is just making it look like a simple back yard game of throw it up and run under it you don't stay vanilla. What TN has right now is young guys who were thrown into the fire and will hopefully develop and learn from the mistakes. If not it's going to be a shootout every weekend. As for OK I think you see some of the same the D is vanilla more so for the lack of experience than to keep anything hidden. Just my two cents.

I can almost guarantee Oklahoma will not move the ball as well as BG did next week. You can book it

The defense was 100% better after TKjr came in.

Plus VFL34 said last night that we are underestimating how big not having Willie Martinez was.

What about McNeil coming back? What about Martin? What about Evan Berry in the nickel and letting Mosely, and Foreman battle it out at CB.

Yesterday was set up to be the perfect storm for our secondary.
Lost two starters in preseason. Martin not ready yet. Kelly slowed by illness.
Martinez not able to coach. Combine all that with playing a very experienced and talented offense. We gave up 30 points but got some key stops when it counted after the lightning delay. So we survived the perfect storm with the help of our very potent offense. Getting Martin healthy and ready to play and Kelly being fully healthy and having our DB coach back combined with the invaluable experience that your young DBs got yesterday will all serve to help us down the road. Lots of work to do, but there is talent.

Maybe I wear my Orange-colored glasses too often, but I seriously believe Butch was trying a few things, and he learned a few things. Yes it was much better when TKjr came in, but you can't expect the DBs to run the table with no injuries, they will happen and we have to know who can step up. I'm convinced he didn't want to play TKjr, hell he was still in the hospital Thursday night!

And we didn't tip our hand in any way on the Defensive side of the ball. Maggitt and Barnett had no sacks, because they didn't crash. They were always in the mix, but we showed virtually none of our Defensive stunts. Next week, win or lose, OU's QB will be well acquainted with Mr's B and M!

Mosley needs to spend time in tackling drills until he can bring Hurd down 1 out of 3 times. :)

Mosley tackles like the wind.

It is simple our defense just didnt show up, why i dont know very very concerned by the lack of coaching adjustments done on the defense side of the ball, i know WILLE wasnt there but you would think our coaching staff would have got together and made some adjustments, they ran the same play after play in the first half and we didnt have a player in 15 yards of the ball it happen play after play, i was very let down in the coaching, i will give them the excuse that coach WILLE wasnt there this time, but this time next week we dont show improvement then we got major coaching problems on the defense side of the ball, i am not going to panic but i thought going in to the game our Defense would dominate them by the second quarter and it just didnt happen.

BG was better than most of the other teams that played SEC teams. Their spread offense was designed to get the ball out fast, thus reducing stress on the QB. Sure our CB and Safeties need more work, but under the circumstances; First Game, Neutral Site and a bunch of true freshman.....what better way to get some good experience, OU will not be able to match BG's fast pace Offense. THEN, we made half time adjustments, and BG only scored 9 points, and UT had TWO TDs called back.......come on, don't give up on this team so fricken fast.

One reason that Maggit was ineffective was that he was playing OLB and not DE. He should be playing DE and have Bates playing the other OLB spot.

BGSU may win the MAC East but they are no better then the 4th best team in the MAC. The Mac is like the SEC all the good teams are in the West.

Neutral site lol. Are you serious. I don't remember seeing one bgsu fan at the game. Everybody knows that was a Tennessee home game! Every game is different. The whole game was vanilla. The offense ran 3 plays all night. Hand off (Left or right, Dobbs keeps it, or hit Wolfe or slot up the seam. That was it. All they had to do though. DBs did struggle and if they continue too the offense is gonna have to do a lot this season. I'm ready for Oklahoma. I like our chances!

And I can guarantee you 100% that we're neither remotely sniffing 59 points nor 399 yards rushing against Oklahoma either. Defense better be light years better than yesterday next week or we go into the Western Carolina game 1-1.

I would bet my life that Mosely had toasted something for breakfast for sure! :) I mean how bad can it be? We have what we have but Foreman did better than Mosely. Foreman has to start next game over Mosely.

I'm more than concerned about our defense. They looked pretty bad. I know this player was out & Martinez was suspended but we have what we have. If we don't get pressure on QB's we are going to get toasted in our secondary. I know TK will be back hopefully full power against OU but other than Sutton we are very weak at CB. Heck, Randolph didn't look good at times yesterday either.

I'm sure we will get better but we can't overlook we have what we have back there. I hope both Miller & Martin get healthy & look better than what we have now because we need it badly. We stunk it up last night on the defensive side of the ball. There's no excuses guys! We ain't getting no Eric Berry or Jabari Greer back there either!

If things don't get a lot better on defense then we will have no choice but to win games in a shootout. We have the offense that's capable of doing that but I do not want it to be that way every single game.

Bowling Green IS NOT an SEC offense. They are pretty good but again they are not SEC type talent. What am I trying to say? Well, if BG can score 30 then how many teams in the SEC will be able to put up more than that on us? I'd say most SEC teams except for Vandy & maybe Kentucky.

I bet Dobbs is thinking to himself we better score every/most times we get the ball this season or we are going to lose. He wouldn't admit that with his class but I bet in the back of his mind he's thinking that.

I picked us to beat OU before the season started. I'm still holding out hope but the way our defense played yesterday & a better team coming in then I am in serious doubt now.

OU has a much better defense that BG. They have a solid offense too but won't be high tempo like BG. However, they have better athletes. If we do win there's no way we win scoring less than 38-40 points.
