Defending Fulmer

folks will be jumping up and down i n celebration, if Dooley goes 8-4 the next two years...
People will not be jumping up and down with 8-4 in 2012.

And we're not trying for 8-4, we're trying for championships. 8-4 should just be a brief stop on the way back up.

Then I suppose we can look forward to the Fire Coach Dooley refrains Dec 2012?

Wonderful.

Actually, the Dooley and Fulmer classes are over-represented thanks to the worst recruiting class bust in 60 years of SEC football.

Kiffin might be ready for a rehire by then. When is USC off probation? :ermm:

I'll be jumping up down 8 times if that happens. It just depends. If we go 8-4 with a win over either Florida, Alabama, OR LSU, then yeah, we should jump up and down. A great year IMO would be 8-4 and a win over one of these 3. Beat Kentucky. Win all non-conference games. Not suffer any 42-7 games.

Certainly not defending Kiffin at all, however I would think Fulmer's 2002 and 2007 classes would have to rank at the top of the most disappointing classes. Kiffin is in their as well although he really never had a full recruiting year to see how bad or good it was going to be.

Fulmers 2006 and 2008 classes were horredous just based on lack of talent signed.

Me too but I'd be mad as h#ll 4 times. Have a feeling you would be too.

Yes. Dissapointed with every loss, but its hard to go undefeated. We did it once, and I hope we can do it again, if my heart can take it.

NS!

How did we ever make it thru the first two in 98?

Why are we not recruiting one of Jeff Halls sons? Whats he been up too. He should have atleast one looking to start HS by now.

Hall coaches at CAK and just now got married. No youngins yet. Sorry cyclopse, but I've kept my eye on him.

edit: no homo

Yeah, Allen, Gaither, Hannon, Haralson, Harrell, Mapu, Mitchell, Riggs, Smith, Stewart, Wade, Wilhoit and Wilson all stunk, eh?

And, who needs Eric Berry, Jones, Martin, McKenzie, Moore, Rogan, Vereen, Walker or Willingham, or the players Kiffin cost us, like Creer, Coleman & Langley?

And who needs Bohannon, Douglas, Johnson, Lathers, Poole, Thomas, Walls, Waggner or Williams, right? That's our best offensive tackle, our best two linebackers, our best running back, and a starting DE and DB, with a good all-around defensive player from last season.

Because those are the recruits you're calling "horrendous."

This team's strength is the offense. Fulmer recruited exactly two players on it, and both have backups that are more talented than they are. In a few years, there's a good chance they'll both be remembered as placeholders.

Go Vols?

How can you say that after this BS?

I can say it...and will...because I am a Vols fan. Not a Fulmer fan, which is what this thread seems to be centered on. Your original post included.

Those of you, and there are a number of you, who are unable to extract your heads from the extreme south end of Phil Fulmer's torso are stuck in the past...among other places.

I'm a Vol fan. Phil Fulmer has a place in the CFHOF, but it was past time for him to go. My post simply pointed out that we were 3 plays away from an 8-3 regular season, which would have eliminated any shot at the 1st BCS NC. Great coaching?, or great plays?

Maybe both, but it ain't like UT left footprints on every opponent that year, as those of you who still worship "St. Phil" maintain.

I'm a Vol fan. Team over any individual, including the coach.

So...Go Vols.

What about these can't miss evaluations from the 2002 class?
James Banks, Heath Benedict, Mondre Dickerson, Cody Douglas, LaRon Harris, Brandon Jeffries, Greg Jones, Aaron Kirkland, Ruben Mayes, Leon Pinky.

That's from one recruiting class.

Now, let's go to Fulmer's highly rated 2007 class:

Deshaun Barnes, William Brimfield, Todd Campbell, BJ Coleman, Lennon Creer, Chris Donald, CJ Fleming, Josh Hawkins, Donald Langley, Tyler Maples, Rolando Melancon, Kenny O'Neal, Ahmad Paige, Cody Pope, Darrius Sawtelle, Rae Sykes, Brent Vinson and Rufus Williams.

I can start naming guys from between those classes as well. You know like Daniel Brooks, Malcom Rawls, Slick Shelley and Darius Myers.

Also, I think we might have had the worst recruiting class ever for any program following a National Championship year. The recruiting class following our NC was atrocious.

Great stuff. Hannon sucked the entire time he was here. Harrell gave us 1 good year plus 1.5 games. Mapu gave us one good year at and then was a backup at a talent-deficient DT position. Moore's best years by far came after Fulmer was gone. Not sure if the Vereen thing is a joke or not. He's barely contributed and he's about to be a senior. Were linebacker not devoid of talent he'd be a career benchwarmer. And Antwan Stewart? He got to play primarily because the savior of our secondary, Demetrice Morley, was awful. I'm not saying every player Fulmer recruited over the majority of that period was bad, but a good portion of the players you named in support of Phil don't say much about his ability to get great players on the field.

My favorite part was talking about Langley like he was someone good.
