Defending Foreman

NO EXCUSES for Foreman as he is a SENIOR and supposed to know better, on the last play, the #1 RULE of a cornerback ESPECIALLY on the last play and that is DO NO LET NOBODY get behind you.........just a SIMPLE STUPID play by Foreman.......he has to have a better football IQ

I thought Butch said TK should have helped on that play. It was on the Butch Jones Show.

Hmm maybe. When CBS zoomed out and showed the replay I remember McKenzie running a seam route and gettin behind Gaulden though. Maybe Kelly's assignement was to help out Forman

The sad thing is that we appeared to be in 2-deep on the play. It looked to me like they sent three receivers deep. Abernathy double the middle receiver and then Eason threw to the outside.

Abernathy's mistake is that he committed too soon. Had he stayed in his back peddle until the throw was made, he most likely would have still made it over there.

OK. I may calling it the wrong scheme, then. He said we needed 2 safeties deep and for our DBs to be playing very loose...at least10 yards back from the line. Then just keep the receivers in front of you.

Agree with your point on Abernathy.

Foreman covered play well early but laxed. Safety should be watching qb eyes though that long of a throw he should have had foreman's back

Forman might consider naming his first born son Jauan Regardless of whose fault it was on the back end of the D...

The football IQ sure seems to have taken a dip this year. Martin's PF on the opening kickoff versus Fkorida. Hurd's head butt versus Ohio (?). Hurd's goal line ball security. JRM getting tossed versus Appy (it was kind of hard to avoid though). Cam's fumbled punt catch after the first defensive stop versus Appy. Lots of receivers dropping perfect passes.

Where was #24? Is it possible that #22 was out of position while trying to cover for a blown assignment on the other side? The CBS video probably isn't showing the whole coverage. I've not watched it more than once live plus halfway paying attention to Butch's analysis.

He was helping with the other wide out I believe...we were in the nickle I'm pretty sure so you would have had a DB on each WR and the safeties providing deep support...

As the last 20 seconds of the game demonstrated, neither D played the long pass well...I'm still laughing at georgia having about 7 guys in the end zone...5 of them were way to deep to make a play on the ball...all they could do was look at each other after the catch and say "Oh Crap!"

I cant even remember if it was him on that last play, but either way I know I was livid and sowas everyone... and y'all may have discussed it already...

But I recall the WR slowing down and looking back, which made the CB turn around to locate the ball and the WR sprinted out to make the grab.

Am I right? Does Foreman get any slack cut or did I see the play wrong?

Why should he get slack? He made a bonehead play. He is lucky Dobbs bailed him out. Doesn't change the fact he was a bonehead for slacking up on that play.

I'm sure that it's much more fun to dissect the coverage on GA's TD with 10 seconds left than it is for GA fans dissecting the Dobbnail Boot break down.

It's kind of like not noticing the guys in the OL except when they screw up. I hope Foreman's not as bothered by it as the fans are. We need him in order to have a championship run.

Here's the deal on that play. As a db playing man to man in that situation you absolutely can't let the guy behind you. It doesn't matter what the receiver does you stay behind him. Foreman played a pretty good game yesterday, but you just can't get lost in that situation. Also, have to question the defensive play call in that situation. We were running a basic cover 2 with man up in a nickel package. Lb's didn't even drop they went with the backs. Not only that, our man up guys played up on the line at snap. That is about as crazy a defense as you are going to see in that situation. Only 19 seconds left, and they are 50 yards from the end zone. Should have been in a very soft cover 3 look, with 6 dbs on the field. Just trying to keep everything in front of us.

Wasn't GA out of TOs at that point? They probably didn't sub either so TN probably didn't want to call a TO to substitute in a 6th DB and give the true freshman QB an opportunity to settle down and get his composure. GA defied the odds with a perfect pass. A senior DB made a horrible mistake.

If DeBord is going to waste Byrd on O then they need to move him to corner. With his speed he could be great at CB. I know it is probably too late this year, but this needs to happen next year.

TN loses a couple of very good WRs after this year and probably Jennings after next year. Developing Byrd as a WR might be a real good decision since it will be a much thinner group in 2018 and Guarantano should be a potential TN GOAT.

Eason made a great throw no doubt. I am unsure on the substitution deal. UGA had to use there last time out to avoid the 10 sec run off on the false start penalty. Either way we have to have our db's and lb's back and give up the underneath throw. Golden rule in that situation is no one gets behind you.

Foreman played the ball which is what he is supposed to do in that coverage. He was expecting help from the safety as the Vols had 2 deep safety's on the play.

Abernathy was the safety and he was supposed to cover the WR over the top, meaning it was his job to support Foreman and keep Georgia from completing the deep ball. However, he got confused and was late getting over which led to the completion and the TD.

If you can recall the last play of the game against Georgia last year they ran a similar vertical route, and the Vols were in a very similar coverage but the safety, Randolf was there to knock the ball away and preserve the win for UT which is what Abernathy should have done yesterday.

There error on that play was made by Abernathy NOT by Foreman.

The Vols weren't in man coverage on that play, they were in Cover 2, meaning that had 2 deep safeties to prevent the deep ball completion by Georgia. The safety got beat not the cornerback.

I can't remember if the clock was about to wind, but assuming it was about to start ticking an offensive substitution with the refs holding up the snap allowing the defense to match could have run off most of the remaining time.

It's too bad that Foreman couldn't be trusted to stay behind the WR. A freshman QB and a freshman WR burned a senior DB or two.

Foreman seems good for a couple "did he just do that" plays every game, but we are going to have to live with it and pray experience pays off.

On a side note being in a family full of gators and puppies, the past two weeks have just been glorious.

We were in cover 2 man. 2 safeties high, with the corners and nickel back in man coverage. Lb's had the backs in man coverage. UGA ran 3 go routes. The slot receiver was covered by Gaulden. He ran up the seem, and had a step on Gaulden. This caused Abernathy to hesitate as Eason was looking at the seem route 1st. Once Eason realized the safety was on the seem route he turned and gunned it to Ridley. Foreman was in man coverage. Ridley was his man, but yes we did have 2 safeties that each had half the field.

Complete mental error on that play. Tackle the receiver if he is going by. I believe we did this earlier in the game and saved a TD but giving up a first down.

They got burned on the seam route early in the game to the TE and I'm thinking that the S was covering the center of the field to stop that.
