The sad thing is that we appeared to be in 2-deep on the play. It looked to me like they sent three receivers deep. Abernathy double the middle receiver and then Eason threw to the outside.
Abernathy's mistake is that he committed too soon. Had he stayed in his back peddle until the throw was made, he most likely would have still made it over there.
NO EXCUSES for Foreman as he is a SENIOR and supposed to know better, on the last play, the #1 RULE of a cornerback ESPECIALLY on the last play and that is DO NO LET NOBODY get behind you.........just a SIMPLE STUPID play by Foreman.......he has to have a better football IQ
Where was #24? Is it possible that #22 was out of position while trying to cover for a blown assignment on the other side? The CBS video probably isn't showing the whole coverage. I've not watched it more than once live plus halfway paying attention to Butch's analysis.
I cant even remember if it was him on that last play, but either way I know I was livid and sowas everyone... and y'all may have discussed it already...
But I recall the WR slowing down and looking back, which made the CB turn around to locate the ball and the WR sprinted out to make the grab.
Am I right? Does Foreman get any slack cut or did I see the play wrong?
He was helping with the other wide out I believe...we were in the nickle I'm pretty sure so you would have had a DB on each WR and the safeties providing deep support...
As the last 20 seconds of the game demonstrated, neither D played the long pass well...I'm still laughing at georgia having about 7 guys in the end zone...5 of them were way to deep to make a play on the ball...all they could do was look at each other after the catch and say "Oh Crap!"
Here's the deal on that play. As a db playing man to man in that situation you absolutely can't let the guy behind you. It doesn't matter what the receiver does you stay behind him. Foreman played a pretty good game yesterday, but you just can't get lost in that situation. Also, have to question the defensive play call in that situation. We were running a basic cover 2 with man up in a nickel package. Lb's didn't even drop they went with the backs. Not only that, our man up guys played up on the line at snap. That is about as crazy a defense as you are going to see in that situation. Only 19 seconds left, and they are 50 yards from the end zone. Should have been in a very soft cover 3 look, with 6 dbs on the field. Just trying to keep everything in front of us.

If DeBord is going to waste Byrd on O then they need to move him to corner. With his speed he could be great at CB. I know it is probably too late this year, but this needs to happen next year.
Wasn't GA out of TOs at that point? They probably didn't sub either so TN probably didn't want to call a TO to substitute in a 6th DB and give the true freshman QB an opportunity to settle down and get his composure. GA defied the odds with a perfect pass. A senior DB made a horrible mistake.

Eason made a great throw no doubt. I am unsure on the substitution deal. UGA had to use there last time out to avoid the 10 sec run off on the false start penalty. Either way we have to have our db's and lb's back and give up the underneath throw. Golden rule in that situation is no one gets behind you.
The Vols weren't in man coverage on that play, they were in Cover 2, meaning that had 2 deep safeties to prevent the deep ball completion by Georgia. The safety got beat not the cornerback.
