We are light years away from being a above average SEC team. What really concerns me most is that while UT regresses the rest of the league is improving greatly. You have to take UK seriously now, heck, they look far better than we do right now. And South Carolina's defense looked just fine to me. UGA's getting better and Bama is on their way up as well. I know it's been talked about on here before, but watching Spurrier coach during a game and watching Phil is like seeing the difference between night and day. Im all for positive encouagement, but this is football, there are boneheaded mistakes that somebody needs to get his butt chewed off for and Phil just claps and claps and claps and claps. Im also left wondering about how far we've fallen that a win over Arkansas freakin' STATE is cause for such celebration...didnt those type of wins used to be kinda of ho hum?

Yeah I agree Gerogia's just amazing with a much superior coach, team, and fans. Somebody be sure to tell the guys they might as well stay home Saturday because rexvol says they don't have a chance!

yeah, I said we dont have a chance. give me a break. what I said was we get a fairly lackluster win over Arkansas State and some yahoos on this board are shouting "bring on Georgia". ASU does not equal UGA.

Rexvol is right. If you look at any team in SEC you couldn't feel totally confident of a win in any of them, not even Vandy, MS, or Auburn. Against these three you might say we would probably win most of time. Against the rest it would be a toss up at best. Against gators and LSU it would take divine intervention. Just being realistic. A win against Arky State means nothing.

it's just one more step toward being eligible for the Music City Slush Bowl

decent means that we didnt look like complete footbal idiots as we allowed ASU to run up and down the field

I was, of course, pleased that we won. . . .but I never would have thought, 10 years ago, that we would be celebrating a win over Arkansas State. Kind of gets tempered a little when Ole Miss hangs within 6 of the team that dealt us a crushing 39 point loss.

I thought the ASU game showed some promise, but it is still painfully obvious that any team with a decent run game is going to slash us. I'm not sure I am calling for Georgia, but I'm caustiously optimistic about the rest of our SEC schedule. On the other hand, I said the same thing about our chances with Florida and we all saw how that went. I just keep hoping the D-line will step it up a bit, and if they do I think we'll be fine.

I heard a radio personality in nashville this mornign describe the win over Arky State as "fool's gold". Of course, I have also seen repectable posters on this board opine that Arky State is a better team than the score indicated and if I want to get really optimistic I can balance the Arky State-Texas outcome against the Arky State-UTK outcome. Barring a bizzare and humiliating upset on Saturday I think we all knew that that the Arky State game was meaningless and the program and staff will be judged by what happens against UGA and throughout the remainder of the conference schedule.

exactly my point, who is Tennessee football now that we're validated by a win over ASU?

ASU hung in there for a while. Our D still has problems. It only looked like they were better because of the disparity in talent. When we play a good team they will be exposed...again. Also, I haven't seen anything that makes me think our kick coverage is any better, and UGA usually has a good return game. That spells trouble. I'd like to think that the week off will give the coaching staff time to fix our problems, but I know better.

unless had we lost that is....... and don't get me wrong, i didn't get excited over winning the game or have some renewed optimism about our current plight, but after last year's PSU bowl game, and the "relevance" or "importance" placed on both winning it and losing it, i'm going to try and refrain from devaluing wins in the future. call it a personal choice.
