December 8th, 2001 - A Day that Changed UT Football For (At Least) a Decade

Throughout the years, the various beatdowns from Spurrier and other losses like Memphis put a sneaking suspicion in my mind that Fulmer was not that great of a coach.

This day solidified it.

Is it ironic that in 2001 we played a very good first half and fell apart in the 2nd half?

All UT teams since then have had that trait and lost at least 2 or 3 games a season due to that....:cray:

This was one of the most fun games I'd attended (not as fun as 86 Sugar Bowl though) and thought we had the game in hand when we knocked out thier starting QB (Davey?). Was starting to book my trip to the NC game and then the back-up (Mock?) came in and ran all over us. We couldn't stop him. Seems like things have gone down hill ever since.

Hopefully, this season was rock bottom and we will make the climb back to glory.

he still coached a pretty good 2004 season (maybe his best work) but it was just not enough

No. I directed that toward you. Not Basilio. Not the OP.

No kidding! That's my point, most posters on here listen to Tony but somehow are embarrassed to admit it because of the few who bash him, as if there's something better.

Oh, I see. I don't understand why anyone would bash anyone for listening to any sports talk show. We are addicted Vol fans. I listen to any and every whenever I can. I work all day with ESPN on in my office, The Sports Animal on the radio, Volnation at my fingertips. Hell, I'm screwed! I'm a freakin Vol freakin freak!! I'll take it how ever I can get it. HUH??

Boy, you guys are spot on - I'm quite certain that our roster of players this year were cursing the day we lost to LSU in 2001........when they 8,9, and 10 years old.

I was at the Georgia Dome that night. I remember seeing a female VOL fan with an orange rose pinned to her and I thought way to early to be thinking we are in NC game. I know many people pick that game as the down fall of the Fulmer regime and maybe it was. They did play extremely well in the Citrus Bowl blowing out Michigan. But we were never championship level after that even when we did get into the SECCG in 04 and 07.
