My expectations just plummeted. More of the same from Debord running Jones's offense. :thud:

Couldn't have said it better....its not debords fault....its butch micromanaging him...this is typical butch jones offense...at central michagan and cincinnati

I don't post very often but the offensive line and play calling is among the worst I have seen. We should have lost this game.

In an attempt to stay positive, I'm chalking this up to an effort to keep play calling close to the vest for next week and almost bit em' in a$$.

Getting out of here before the meltdowns. Good night. I'm taking solace in the fact it's not L. Should've been just that. We caught every big break in the game. Easily the luckiest win I've ever witnessed.

It took the 4th page for someone to mention oline. Debord's every 1st down Hurd runs it was painful to watch .. Vanilla play or not, but more importantly was appy's ability to come after the qb. We have not had a passing game in years because no one has learned how to block. Malone's catch was due to adequate time for the qb. I see no improvement from last year, Hurd is still 10 yards or less, we supposedly don't have a second (5 star might I add) running back and now Dobbs is trying to learn how to throw (to some great wide receivers) with no oline defending him.. welcome to 2015 ... 2.0

I felt the same first half.

Late third quarter and still down not so much.

The OLine didn't do DeBord any favors tonight, but he seemed hell-bent on trying to get Hurd and Kamara on the outside with a rFR and a 2nd-stringer starting at LT and RT. When it didn't work, he just kept trying it. Meanwhile, we were ripping off runs between the tackles when we decided to run it there. Yet, he kept calling plays to the outside and they just weren't working.

Not enough pass plays to the middle of the field, not enough designed QB runs, and not enough imagination.

9 touches for Kamara isn't enough. Needs to be about 10 carries and 3-5 targets.

We waited the whole offseason for this? OMG, please help us get past this game with one of your great stories. No pressure, at least not as much as these young Vols dealing with lofty expectations. I'm sure you've got a good one picked out for us. 😄

Debord needs a 6'5" pocket passer... then his crap will work, until then Dobbs will suffer back there. Same as last year... after a couple of games, Dobbs was allowed to run wild and things got a lot better for all. Likely that will happen again this year. Debord will not make Dobbs a good pocket passer... never happen.

A pocket passer would be killed behind this line.

True this. Hurd looked way worse than he really is. There is a ton to work on.

He needs 5 guys that can hold a damn pocket. Dobbs made some bad throws, but he gets pressured way too often.

Vanilla offense against a non-power 5 team makes sense... until you're down by 10 at the half. Offense should have opened up after that. Only 2 receptions by Malone? If we aren't going to throw the ball then we should just direct-snap to Hurd.

Most of Kamara's 9 touches came very late in the game: I don't think he had more than 2 carries and maybe one catch until the fourth Q or close to it. Mix it up, man--and throw to the middle of the field, yes. Use all the weapons and stop trying to run Hurd 25 times a game.

No Jet Sweeps or Read Options the entire game? That was our MO last year and was successful. Oh well at least we got the W... Those boys got some work to do.....

The play-calling has been an crap, but I expected as much considering the opponent.
I hate saying things about the team, but here's the truth.
A five-year-old should just be able to point to plays in the playbook randomly, and our guys still be ahead in this game. We are not executing no matter what the play calls are.

Exactly, there were way too many busted assignments and etc. Had they executed the play calling would have been fine. The run game should have fired on all cylinders

I have read the vanilla playcalling in a few threads and frankly it makes me sick. If the coaches really did call a "vanilla" gameplan then they can hit the road. That vanilla gameplan garbage is ok when you dont have any expectations. Last year there was very little expectations past winning 8 games. So a vanilla gameplan wouldnt have made a big difference. Thats not the case this year. We are picked to win the east possibly the SEC. That vanilla crap has to go.

Last season I thought Debord did a gokd job for the most part. But it seems like this team has regressed. This game should have been one of those stat padding games. Didnt happen.
