By down field passes you mean our receivers running streaks down the field just to have dobbs under throw them. Hey at least the db's will be too tired to chase hurd and kamara.

The offense improved throughout the season. Late in the year they lit two pretty good Vandy and Northwestern Defenses up. I think it was less scheme and more DeBord getting to know the strengths of his players.

Good observation. Debord hadn't called a play since he was the Bears TE coach in 2012 also. Makes sense that it would take him some time to shake off the rust and get comfortable with the weapons he's got.

And the argument wasn't Power I teams...it was non SPREAD...all these off the top of my head. All utilize the play action pass. :hi: Missing several I'm sure, hope I met your deadline...was asleep at 12:52. :)

You can still utilize play action with a spread offense. I agree not all teams run the spread but I'm willing to wager that a vast majority of schools do run it these days

I'd also like to add that I don't care if we run the single wing as long as we move the ball and win

As for DeBord's secret wrinkles, the coordinator certainly has plenty of options to throw at opposing defenses.

Running back Alvin Kamara could see his role expend and evolve. Croom can present mismatch problems — too big for defensive backs and fast enough to outrun linebackers — and could be targeted plenty on play-action passes to underneath routes and in the flat. Might the Vols expand the under-center package they used successfully in the Outback Bowl?

This is what I was saying in one of my post about Hurd. I like our offense we run right now, but a few different wrinkles thrown in here and there could definatly make our offense more dynamic and unpredictable. Folks, I obviously love the vols, and I admit im biased, and maybe a bit of a "sunshine pumper", lol, but I am very exited about the upcoming year. I think were right where we need to be to start competing for sec titles again. GBO!!!!:rock:

2008...Michigan vs Urban/Tebow/Strong Florida Gators...DeBord made Chad Henne look like the 2nd coming of Peyton Manning/Tom Brady putting up over 500 total yards offense with like 373 of it through the air....the guy can call a passing game. He studied the spread offense prior to that season at Indy with Tom Moore...Carr wouldn't open it up until that bowl all season...if he can get semi-consistent passing from Dobbs he'll fling it...just ask Charlie Strong and Urban Meyer.

They hit the TE down the seam after motioning them inside to an H back position. Both pretty good throws and catches IMHO
