Debord needs to go

It sure didn't help to run right at Bama all game. That's their strength. UT's strategy against Bama should have been to get the ball to their playmakers on the outside, not just run up the middle.

I know we're decimated with injuries, esp. on defense. But when Gary Danielson starts making comments and shaking his head as to why Debord kept running between the tackles time after time (esp. on the first 2 downs), something's got to change...

offense didn't want to tip their hand to Bama before the SECCG..........played it close to the vest so to speak.

He got shaken up pretty early on.

You should at least consider when things went south, they held back on a few players to preserve them (hence the lack of Dobbs runs as well)

I totally agree that he held Dobbs back. We got into a hole we couldn't come out of and it was self-preservation time. I get it, but I hate that we have to go there 4 years in to this rebuild. I know we're decimated by injuries but that felt like 2013 Auburn at Neyland.

Exactly! UT should be throwing down field, that's the best way to attack the Bama defense!

I agree Debord needs to go. I still think Butch can win big here under the right conditions, but he's not good enough to cover for poor assistant coaching. He needs top level assistants and Debord isn't gonna cut it.

Currently our offense is not in the top 50 in rushing, passing, scoring and total offense.

I'm debored watching him run the same play over and over again in the same order every game.

That was a slap in the face to Kamara. After last week, all this kid did was prove who was the best back on the team. Instead Hurd got 90% of the carries for his usual 1yd. If I'm Kamara Id be pissed. John Kelly got a raw deal today also.

I question the IQ of our fan base. We were beaten by a better AND healthier team. Dobbs had no time to throw the ball, and when he did, he went with the first progression. Not much any OC could've done. We went 2-2 in our gauntlet, should've been 3-1. It is what it is.

These young men have played ball for 6 straight weeks, they need to rest up. Support the team and stop lashing out like 3 year old children.

IF u know that u cant knock them off the ball- how about some trick plays, new formations, just try it- what did we have to lose- we got beat by 40 points!!!!!

There's a difference in a "struggling line" and a line of guys who have no business being on the field. You had guys out there who have never been on a college field against a D full of guys ready to step into the NFL.

Thomas is a junior who has seen plenty of snaps.

Boulware and Richmond have been in the program for over a year and gotten snaps.

Give the embellishment a rest.

Question our IQ? It doesn't take very much IQ to see that if something is not working, you should try something else. In the few times we threw the ball for more than 10 yards yesterday, we got 1st downs. When Dobbs rolls out of the pocket he almost always completes a pass or get a 1st down running it. Why stay in the pocket when its collapsing? Why run the ball up the middle when you NEVER get more than 3 yards. Why throw a WR screen out to the side when Bama always had someone there to tackle the guy. They have looked at our tape and know we like to run that play so they are ready for it.

I also heard that against FL, Butch called the plays in the 2nd half while DeBored sat in the press box. I don't know if this has happened other times but this should be a sign.

I agree with the OP wholeheartedly. DeBored HAS to go or he has to at least learn from what does and doesn't work and call what works.

We did have a lot of injuries but I believe if we tried the passing game with passes >10 yards each time, we would have at least kept the game close. Don't give me this bull crap that he didn't have time because if he rolls out of the pocket he always has more time from other games I have seen this year.

I was at the game so I haven't heard Gary yet but if he is seeing it, does that not make you guys think?

I do not like rush decisions. He was bad yesterday, but he did play the best defense in college football. Having said this, I do not like our sysyem with Hurd. I love it with Kamara and Kelly. Not saying I dont like Hurd, I'm saying I dont like Hurd in this system.

Hurd has to have a little bigger hole and a hole open for a little longer than those two. Our o line is killing him. I do think Kelly and AK can probably get through the type of holes our o line is opening easier

Debord shouldn't be judged by this game due to the injuries. I don't understand not attempting one 50/50 ball against BAMA. You have to at least try and fail once.

Debord is judged imo by what he's done since he's been here and that's a very vanilla offense in a year we were supposed to be a dominating offense. Hasn't happened at all. A&M was impressive by yardage only. 7 TOs and the inability to do anything early in games is inexcusable.

Debord is not a next level OC.
He was out of football for a reason. Even mid level teams in a lesser league didn't go after him.

In your opinion, how did we rack up over 600 yds of offense last week at A&M?

A&m is the worst SEC defense Vols have played since Ky last yr. they suck and will be exposed this Sat and a couple more Saturdays before the season is over.

We've had offensive issues all season, but when our defense and special teams were up to full strength, they took some of the burden off of the offense.

Look at the App State Game. Look at VA Tech without the turnovers. Look at Ohio. This team has struggled to put up points on a regular basis. When Dobbs is not a threat to run, which he wasn't at all yesterday, the offense just dies. There was no way we were running on Alabama's edge, which had Debord calling pocket plays for Dobbs, and that just doesn't work behind the mahoney-line.

Yesterday, I was on the "Fire DeBord" train. Today I see all the injuries and redshirt we had to burn just to not forfeit the game, and I understand why him and Butch ran the game they did against Alabama. Coach decided not to throw away the rest of the season just to have a prettier loss to a foe we could not defeat while we were at half strength.

Just study the Bama attack and use the same type of reverses....They were schemed brilliantly....

Sorry but Debord needs to be gone. Do we have more than 5 plays?????, We never threw the ball down field to back the linebackers off the line of scrimmage. I know we have many injuries and winning today would be very hard but the play calling is so bland. Bama had no respect for the deep ball and kept 7 & 8 in the box at all times. If I were a receiver recruit I would not consider Tennessee as long as Debord was there. Not trying to be negative but the play calling was awful. We need a young mind who can open up the offense. He was a bad hire and it really showed today...........JMO Go Vols

While I am no fan of Debord - he is only running Jones offensive scheme. That is why Jones did not hire a hot shot young offensive coordinator when he hired Debord.

Debord was hired only to run Jones offense. And per Jones his system is infallible. Debord is an I formation guy anyway. But I'm no fan of Debord nor Jones scheme.
