DeBord is coming (merged)

Try combining his record as a HC and get back to me. Also got the benefit of playing in the big 10 as opposed to the sec. Pretty easy when you don't face UF, UGA, and UA every year.

I wasn't arguing for Debord or Fulmer, just clarifying how winning percentage is figured.

As a long-time fan, I am tickled to death with Butch and Company regardless of who is included in "and Company."

For their system. Maybe. For ours? Nope. Time will tell and the same people who complain about this now are the ones who were typing "Butch Jones who?" On this message board a few years ago.

Were DeBord an active coordinator, I think you'd have an argument. However, he's not even been seriously considered for anything but position coaching for 8 years. You seriously think that he's an undiscovered diamond in the rough? No, my friend, he's a warm lump of coal that fits an ego and it's need to be unchallenged.

For those of you who say he could have done better, please give me a list of coaches with the following:

Experience as an OC
Experience in front of 100k+ fans
Experience in both the spread and power running offenses
Experience in coaching OLines (our biggest weakness)
Experience playing at the highest level of college football
Willing to set aside his own playbook so that we don't force our players to learn another system

Let us see your list.

Stupid? Butch just hired quite possibly the most qualified guy to lead Tennessee back to a title in all of college football. DeBord is a top 5-6 offensive mind college or pro. I'm telling Ya, it's Christmas in Feb.

I haven't said too much about DeBord prior to now, because honestly I didn't know too much about him. But after looking at him a little closer, I have to say... I kind of agree with you here.

But who knows, maybe we should've brought Kiffin back to Knoxville..... :eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

At least we won't have to worry about our OC being an up and comer who will jump ship in two years.

If we now don't have the oldest OC/DC combination in the country we must be close? At least these guys give Chief/Cutcliffe a run for their money in the age category.

Well, I just turned on the radio to discover 2 things....that Debord is new OC and that the sky is in fact falling.

If posting my thoughts on a message board is running the program we have serious problems.

That said, when this goes bad how long does butch give him?

This is nothing more than a thank you hire.

I see this hire as a head-scratcher but before condemning this to Clawson or Sunseri status I'll trust that Butch knows what he's doing.

Tony Franklin, cumbie... Want more

I have absolutely no idea how this will work out. What I do know is that, right or wrong, Jones is not confused about his strategy. He may eventually go down in flames but he has consistently demonstrated allegiance to "fit", consistency, and disciplined execution. The commitment a person has on those things do not show up well on a resume or bio.

So for my part... Welcome Coach DeBord. I hope you have a long and very successful career with the Vols.

Did we hire him as a HC?

Again all I was getting at was everyone using the he won a title at UM defense is pointless.

Never said it was a bad hire or that I was upset about it. Just not thrilled either. Wait and see mode it is for me.

I think I will wait for something official before I explode. It is Butch's coaching staff, he gets who he wants.

Your stupid, unsupported opinion, as your expressed opinions usually are. I'm sure Butch is so disappointed that you don't approve. :thud:

Thank you.

I was worried we would go with the hot up and comer. That guy would bring his own system and have an ego. No thanks.
