Debord first game score card

On pace to score 70 to 80 points but the offense is a problem?

Exactly. If pushed, I think they'd get more aggressive and score at least that if it was required. They're running what's become the base offensive plays and with the exception of a few series it's pretty much been successful.

If (keeping my fingers crossed) special teams continues to do well when those few series don't work out, the defense just has to step up and this game is way out of reach for BG.

We got 42 points with 8:00 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. And Dobbs has taken a step back. I take that every game. Plus we got one TD called back. (the one Hurd ran in.) We play Oklahoma next. I am pretty sure we are not going to show every thing on offence today.

Exactamundo!

Haters gonna hate!

I just don't buy the "vanilla" argument that much. This offense is basically the same offense we ran last year, and I don't see it changing much at all between now and next week. But I'm not an expert on offensive schemes like 90% of this site so I digress.

Edit: As to your point, the offense has been everything it's needed to be vs Bowling Green. Great RB duo with neither carrying too much of the load, and both getting solid YPC and TD's. Dobbs has played well (Malone dropped 20 yard post wide open) and hasn't had to run near as much as in the past. Really hard to tell until OU game, but I'd be hard pressed to say I'm really disappointed in anything they have done.

The points are fine. But when you consider starting field position it's really not impressive. Line has lacked push and Hurd looks slow.

Eh, it hasn't been overly thrilling, but it's solid. If I was going to critique anything, it would be our secondary. That's going to be a big issue.

Relax. Offense is very effective. They are basically running the orange and white game plays.

Defense has only blitzed once (I think). But the secondary will have some serious work to do before next Saturday.

Dobbs has taken a step back. Doesn't read defenses well. If you can't move the ball down the field with a 5star and four 4 star WRs against this defense, you got issues.

What the F are you talking about with regards to Dobbs?? Are we watching the same game? He's not been allowed to throw the ball by and large. He's 11-17 for 145 yds and 2tds, which includes a drop by Malone on what we would've been a big play and a well-thrown ball to Preston Williams that easily could've been a 3rd TD pass. For crying out loud, if you wanna be critical of DeBord's vanilla play calling (which has yielded 42 pts so far through 2.5 qtrs) I guess you can go ahead. But critical of what Dobbs has done? Jeez man, what do you expect? If he's not 20-20 for 500 yds and 10 tds, you guys just hate on the kid. Unbelievable.

Edit: his QB rating right now is 175. By comparison, Peyton's QB rating at UT was 147....were you unimpressed with him too?

He's trolling, it's what he does. Don't fall for it. This is what we've all been waiting for. It's football time on Volnation. Most entertaining place to enjoy a game.

I am fine with Debord this far. This a work in progress particularly with the O-line. I would give them a solid B+. Hard to tell against this level of defense. Josh seems to have complete command of the offense and his throws are more accurate. Thinking about designing a line of rubber sheets with a Power T for the bedwetters.

Offense: Solid - 42 pts in 2.5 quarters, however, must recognize that the BGSU D is not elite.

O-Line: solid to dominate - winning the match-up. Providing running lanes and protection, even providing secondary level support. However, BGSU D-line is much less than the balance of the schedule.

WR: average. Not seeing the separation on the wide-outs, but the slot/TE are doing well. Think the mid-field is open due to play call. The w/r are doing well blocking downfield. Would expect the play-action to be devastating with the running game.

RB: excellent: This is a tough duo. Interesting in the pass-catching from the two RB's.

Defense: 27 pts in 2.5 quarters Recognize that the BGSU O is good. Really like the play structures as it forces reads and late reactions from the D

D-Line: average to solid: BGSU line is really pretty good and cohesive. Even with that, the D-Line is close, but not really applying pressure with the plain packages, requiring more coverage time. BGSU plays are really good - run/pass option, with an outlet. Tough to defend and hold the reading positions (DE / LB / Safety), force reactions rather pressing.

LB: average at best: Several packages, but the focus is passing, rather than run support. Seems slows, but likely tied to the reads.

DB: WORK: Issues are tied to the front 7 and scheme, combined with a gambling mentality (closing speed). Credit the BGSU play to isolate and hold the safeties, stopping any coverage support.

Offense has exceeded my expectations. The fact that Dobbs hasn't been running as much as last year is a result of the O line holding up better. Kamara and Hurd are studs. Dobbs arm looks strong. Defense is what needs to tighten up. Secondary needs adjustment. Jumper seems to be in on every play on defense and special teams. Love his heart.

LOL Dobbs looked like the darkhorse Heisman candidate he is being called by some tonight. Check his stats.

15/22 205 yds, 2 TD 0 Int/TO

Masterful troll thread. 59 points and 400 yards rushing and we're still complaining about the offense. We didn't have to show everything because what we did do worked well enough.

I'm not impressed with 600 yards total offense either...

I doubt they would show their hand against Bowling Green. Dobbs has made some good throws.

That is my question, I do not know that much about scheming? Were they trying to be as generic as possible without being conservative??
