Debord considering to retire (report)

He's not even on a warm seat. Just because twenty of you keep vomiting this up in every thread doesn't make it true.

He is definitely on the warm seat. Wouldn't say it's hot yet but the seat warmers have been turned on. And God help him if we lose the bowl game to an average ACC or Big 10 team that we should run off the field. My concert in the bowl game will be how motivated are the players, especially the upperclassmen. If we end up in the Taxpayer then atleast it's in a warm weather state and climate but if it's the Belk,Music City or something similar then I can't see them very motivated to play in NC or Nashville. Holding out slim hope we get the Citrus but think Flor is headed there or the Outback.

Personally I think we just need to start all over again. Hire Blackburn and let him hire a proven HC and give him the money to go out and get proven DC's & OC's. It can't be any worse than it is right now and this is coming from a formal big time Butch supporter.

It can't be worse than 8-4 and possibly 9-4? While I would like to go to the next level your statement is bulls5it.

Louisville...between the Reds and Vols it's been rough being a fan for quite some time. Eventually the tide will turn.

I've seen some of your posts about your boy playing ball. We'll have to stay in touch bc I have a 6 year old who hasn't really been enthused about any sports we've signed him up for but constantly talks about wanting to play football.

Do you or have you coached?

My dad is from Louisville, graduated from Manual HS....my moms family is all from Grant County, between Cincy and Lexington. I'm popular at Thanksgiving.

I coached my son in Basketball, and Baseball....until he decided he wanted to play nothing but Football. I've simply supported....I was the driver, practice watcher, checkbook, and at-home coach. I've been lucky to hook up with some great people, like Erik Ainge, who've really helped his development. We've had some setbacks, but I'm happy to say he's been recruited by Maryville College. Looks like I'll get 4 more years, which is good...I haven't known what to do with myself since we lost in the third round of the playoffs.

Give me Scott Linehan, he's got Dak en fuego!!!!! Ask RedFox about Dak. He's got it twice this year.

How Bout them Cowboys!!!!!!

They're good!

I understand we strive to get the best coaching staff in America... But

Why would a currently successful NFL OC step down to take the exact same job at the college level? I feel pretty confident in saying that has never happened. And there's a reason for that. Because if you're successful in your current position you're not going to take the same job at a lower level.

3 points against Vandy in a half with a Sugar Bowl on the line should have been the referendum on DeBord. Especially that godawful pass to Kamara at the end.

The overall numbers for the season look good but stats can get padded against the Tennessee Techs of the world and we will never really know how many plays Dobbs bailed this team out on with his athleticism.

I still think he retires and opens the seat up to Azzani.

He is almost assuring himself of being out the door next year is CZA is promoted to PC. I hope he isn't that stupid to hire CZA as his play caller.

I will believe it when it happens. I feel Haney is just fanning the flames. Only way I believe it beforehand is if the "check my stats" guy confirms it.

I would retire too since the captain is bound and determined to go down with the ship

Well while you are taking shots at the "captain", think about this:

Say Kiffin or Dooley was still here. With the title IX crap that happened, do you think we would been better off with either handling it?

Because if you really honestly think either could have held things together through that any better, you are just flapping your gums.

Not sure Spliffin didn't contribute to it in some way.

That godawful pass to Kamara is 100% on the Senior QB. That was a checkdown, safety valve route. He should have thrown upfield or run. Guaranteed that was not the primary read on that call....nobody throws to a back, on the short side of the field, behind the sticks, ON FOURTH DOWN.

I can agree with this but why even have Kamara running that route?

More to the point, why have 3 out of 5 receivers short of the yard marker to make??? If you watch the replay of it, everyone is covered up short and Dobbs only has 2 deep options and one of them was covered.

He should have went to the receiver running the post in the end zone IMO but was getting pressure from #11.

At some point, you have to question the situational awareness of that senior QB and that is generally something that should be able to be taught IMO.

Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt - Game Videos - November 26, 2016 - ESPN

Not an expert but that's JMO on the subject. I won't get into how silly I thought it was to go for it in the first place.

But think about when the AK/Kelly duo started. They weren't against good teams. Talking Debord here. Against good teams it took on average a half to get going. Unacceptable.

Yep. Very true. I still think it might have made a difference vs SC. But vs Vandy, squarely on Shoop and the D. Even with the injuries, Vandy should never put up 45 on us. I did hear Tim Priest railing about our players being so out of position every play.

Unless that Coach thinks he will get a shot at head coach when Butch leaves

Not saying it's likely, but it is possible

Well, any smart coach doesn't want a yes man. The buck always has and always will stop with the head coach during the game, but an OC who will come into the HC office and show him where he is wrong is saving his bacon.

But if the plays Butch is choosing is what is killing us, he needs to let his OC run the offense, his DC run the defense, the special teams guy run that, his position coaches do their thing, and he just needs to chew out refs and keep guys like Jennings from getting a second unsportsmanlike. Like any other guy in charge needs to do.

Or is that what Fulmer did with Clawson?

Guarantee that's what happens if debord leaves. Idk if that's a good or bad thing. I mean CZA would be a disaster but likely any other OC would be that will jump into this dumpster fire. Hell just let Butch choose his poison and hope for the best.

i thought Debord did a great job this year, just look at Dobbs passing stats,Hurd didn't help him out with quitting in mid season and no telling how long his heart wasn't in it either

No way you get a proven OC to come here in this situation with a coach on a very hot seat.

That proverbial hot seat may only be hot to the fans tho, we don't have or know who the next AD is goin to be so that seat may not be as hot as some may likenit to be. Just a thought.

I knew it would go down like this. Not being "fired" but retiring. This is the best news I've heard so far. Changing OC, overhauling S&C program. Debord got a us through for the most part but his play calling was way too predictable and vanilla at best. He lacked inspiration.

How much of an upgrade do you want? We scored more points in the league outside of Bama. Games without Hurd, plowing into the middle of nothing, should have been enough to show you that the offense is more than capable.

We need consistency for 4 quarters and every game.T he final 4 games we played 3 horrid defense's and Vandy shut us down after 2 mins into the 2nd qtr. The first 8 games which consisted of our toughest opponent's and we went 5-3 during that stretch.Offensively we scored 29 pts a game and that would rank us 66th in scoring offense. We averaged 386 total yards a game, 172 rushing and 214 passing. In those 8 games we scored a total of 31 TD's, Dobb's had 11 int's in that stretch and fumbled 8 times but only lost 3 of those..As a team during that stretch we had 22 fumbles but miraculously only lost 8 of those. So now we come to the final 4 games where our schedule was extremely easy. Those 4 teams are a combined 22-25. So in those 4 games we score 27 TD's where we scored 31 the first 8 games. We averaged 50 pts a game,549 yards a game,279 rushing and 270 passing. Dobb's only had 2 int's in that span with 2 fumbles and losing 1 of them and as a team they had 5 fumbles and lost 4 of them.So those 4 games bump us from averaging 29 pts a game to 36 pts a game,we went from 386 total yards a game to to 440 yards a game, went from 172 rushing yards a game to 208 rushing yards a game and passing went from 214 to 233 a game. So my point is clearly shown in those stats we went from a middle of the road offense #66 and in just 4 games against some horrid defense's we jumped all the way to #25 in scoring offense. So we pretty much had average at best offensive numbers and Padded the hell out of our stats to make the offense look way better than it really is.6 of our games we had less than 404 total yards and 4 of those we had less than 330 total yards of offense.. In the Ala/SC stretch we had 297 total yards vs SCe and 163 total yards vs Ala and scored 31 total points and 7 of those were on a kick return for a TD.So you asked how much more improvement I wanted I think that showed that half of our games we couldn't even get to 400 total yards of offense. Throw in all those turnovers and an ungodly amount of penalties that is why we were lucky to be 8-4. And exactly why we need a new OC and a real QB Coach. We have too much talent potential on offense next year and need to maximize what we have.
