Debord considering to retire (report)

Butch isn't going anywhere, UT isn't going to fire a head coach who has a good shot at winning 9 games again it doesn't matter how much you want it to be true. If this were Alabama or OSU where they are used to winning 10-11 games a year, then yes he would be in trouble but not at a school that hasn't had back to back 9 win seasons in a decade much less a 10-11 win season.

Again and again

At some point you've got to go the other way and risk it. Things couldn't possible get any worse

We took a risk when he hired Butch. It worked out in the beginning but now we've seen all we needed to see that he's not going to have a future here at Tennessee. Let's get an AD who'll do their damn job for once and hire proven coaches. Enough with these diamonds in the rough type of coaches.

If you recall, when Mike Bajakian left, there was a dearth of available OC talent. Butch reached out to DeBord because he knew him.

Jones had Debord run his system. Debord's background was in pro style offense but Jones had him run his system. He will probably do same if he hires someone again

There is little question Debord added his wrinkles. The offense came out flat early in the year, placing the defense in bad situations, which contributed to injury. Combine that with the fact that there really wasn't depth. Shoop would not play younger players and those that did were bad.

If DeBord retires, I will not miss the delayed sweep play which fooled no defense, consistently lost yardage, and killed a few drives.

I was agreeing.

I can't stand the thought of Butch any longer.
Enough is enough

The defense was bad out the gate. There's simply no reason for Tennessee to struggle against App

Here's the thing ...

Real coaches don't think like NegaVols. Real coaches want to coach great players and want an opportunity to prove themselves. While any potential OC would have concerns that the HC could get fired, most OCs are only working on 1- and 2-year stints anyway.

Right now, we have three great QB prospects on our roster, including the guy that most schools would've taken over Jalen Hurts in 2016. We have loads of talent on the roster. Other than the "hot seat" situation with Butch, this is absolutely a dream situation for a great up-and-coming OC. What's more ... if a young up-and-comer comes here and succeeds (i.e. wins SEC Championship / makes BCS Bowl), then he's almost a shoe-in for a Head Coach job somewhere.

So I would strongly disagree with this assessment that "no one wants to come here." There's some turmoil, sure, but there are very few "safe" jobs in college football right now. The only real question is whether Butch is willing to give a new OC enough control, because the best and brightest are going to want that.

You're crazy if you think any decent OC is going to risk their reputation after seeing what has happened with Shoop. This is a sinking ship, and almost everybody can see it.

Except the people who have thier heads up Jones' ass.
He may not be fired now but next year guarantees it.

6-6 or 7-5 at best.
I really think that's pushing it.
