Debord and QBs

I don't post much but I do read on here every day. I listen to the Swain Event every morning and read posts on here every single day. Regarding the OC situation and the hiring of Debord, their has been more negativity on this topic alone than excitement about what is happening to our Football Program. I have chosen to take a positive attitude every morning and carry that attitude throughout my day for almost 7 years now.I truly believe that great things have happened directly becasue of this, so hearing my fellow VOL NATION become negative really gets to me. HERE IS MY SIMPLE PHILOSOPHY TO THIS SITUATION. IF YOU TRUST BUTCH JONES THAN YOU TRUST HIS DECISION TO HIRE DEBORD. I'd like to name a few things that have given me more hope and excitement this year than almost an entire decade of UT football. 1) BACK TO BACK TOP 5 CLASSES. 2) WINNING RECORD LAST YEAR. 3) OUR PLAYERS FIGHTING TO THE VERY END OF EVERY GAME. 4) BUTCH JONES. 5) THE ENTHUSIASM IN OUR FANBASE, PLAYERS, AND COACHES. 6)ELECTRICITY INSIDE NEYLAND STADIUM AND NEYLAND STADIUM BECOMING A PLACE OPPOSING TEAMS NEVER WANT TO STEP FOOT IN AND PLAY OUR VOLUNTEERS. 7) A QB WHO WE ARE TRULY EXCITED ABOUT TO START A SEASON. 8) A PURE ALL PURPOSE SEC RB OR 2!. 9) WEAPONS TO THROW THE BALL TO. 10) A TENNESSEE DEFENSE THAT TEAMS ARE AFRAID OF!! Ok I will stop at 10 but guys and gals, please don't panic. IF YOU TRUST BUTCH YOU TRUST HIS DECISIONS.

Or , you could say if you trust Butch Jones , then you trust his decision , to start Justin Worley , putting a square peg in a round hole , and are very confident , we would have finished with a better record if he had not been hurt

Butch was saving Dobbs for championship runs... We all knew last season was not going to be one of those years... Now the next 4 years are a different story as we will be competing for the SEC..

I agree with the attempt to save dobbs redshirt 100%.. If you look at the long term plan you would too

Meh we will three juniors when Dobbs graduates , there was no reason to save Dobbs ... especially now that we have that qb guru DeBord . The guy along with Carr that decided , that in Brady's sr year he should play the first qtr and and a sophomore named Henson should play the 2nd and whoever played the best ,played the 2nd half .

The best thing in the long term , for this team was to continue momentum, go to a bowl game , have a winning season and parlay that into a big recruiting class.
This would not have happened with Worley continuing as our qb

What's your point we did go to a bowl and get a great recruiting class. Also we only had one qb commit (maybe 2 at the end) when worley was starting

You really have to ask ?
My point was with Worley at qb we don't beat USC and maybe not even Vandy .We don't have a winning record and we don't kick Iowa's a$$ on national tv , and we don't (imo) finish with a strong of class as we did .

Also we only had one qb commit (maybe 2 at the end) when worley was starting

you're only helping my point . Without Dobb's leaving in two years good chance we don't sign as many qb's , so there is another bonus

While I was concerned initially about DeBord being out of football for several years, it is clear that he was still plugged into the game. He is a football junkie!!! Obviously he missed coaching because he would go to UM practices, watch, and just be a part of what was going on. He is a student of the game. He has worked under some of the game's best minds. One thing that is sometimes overlooked about this hire is his experience running and managing a staff. Like any new piece to the puzzle, he will bring in new ideas and energy. He will make the position coaches better and they will make him better. That's what good managers do. Can't wait to see how long it takes for his influence to show results.

I thought the press conference was fine, but what did you expect him to say? "I haven't coached in a few years because I was not getting offers?"

At the end of the day, Butch hired DeBord because he was likely the ONLY OC who would agree to come in and run Butchs offense w/o significant changes. That's fine & certainly his call. I just don't understand why he wouldn't then give it to Azzani& hire a proven QB coach. That would have made more sense to me given the situation. Only time will tell.

Developed all the way to a 6th round pick? It's funny now looking back, but Brady wasn't that well thought of coming out of Michigan.

Talk about 30 teams getting it wrong....and 1 getting lucky!

Arian Foster was undrafted. His position coaches were horrible.

I look at it like this we replaced a guy (Bajackian) who used to be the QB coach under OC Butch Jones and HC Mike Debord with a guy with more OC experience and head coaching exp.
so in my mind it should be an improvement if u can replace a guy with his bosses boss.

I do think it unfair to judge Bajakian until Jones had a chance to build the roster a little more. However, if you just look at Debord's resume and Bajakian's side by side, it would certainly appear to be an upgrade. Debord's reasoning that he gave during the press conference for his two years out of the game made me feel better about the hire as well.

Yeah I mean it's not like the guy just couldn't find anybody that would hire him. He could of been coaching sounds like he was just waiting for the right fit to me.

I don't know if you've already given your take on the hire LWS, but i would love to read your thoughts.

Best possible choice he could make.

When your roster is 2 years into the system and the roster is over 60% underclassmen, you do not want to bring in a coordinator that has his own system or you expect him to learn your system. Its too risky when you are in a critical third year.

DeBord understands the system. He understands the terminology. So the transition to a new coordinator should have little negative impact. The players and staff should continue to enhance the system and execution..

Would have been nice to have someone with more flash but expectations to win would have certainly been less, from my standpoint.

Complete garbage. If we want a QB that only wants to do what is comfortable, he better be next level status.
There is no teaching involved in that scenario.
There is no player development in that scenario.

Nice post, your #3 reason was a nice change of pace to prior years.

Here is part of an article from today's (2-14-15) Chattanooga TFP:

Part of his interview, in fact, included a meeting with Dobbs.

"I think he's a great person," DeBord said. "I've watched a lot of film on him, and when I came in to interview -- I think this was smart on Butch's part -- but I actually was able to sit down with him and talk to him. I found out right away how much passion he has for football."

DeBord said he's already noticed some strides Dobbs has made on some smaller details the two have discussed.

"I could not believe, just in our skill development period on Wednesday, how much he's improved, with his stance, with his drop, with his footwork -- all those things," DeBord said.

"We don't have a ball out there, so we can't throw a ball, but we're holding a cone and going through the drops and all that stuff. Just the improvement he's made shows me his passion for football and wanting to be a great player. I'm really excited about working with him."

DeBord may be adjusting to new players and a new situation, but parts of the offense he's diving into are hardly new.

"It's like riding a bike," he said. "You get back on it and start pedaling. Right now I'm pedaling pretty fast."
If he had to fix his drop, Tampa Bay is in big trouble!!!😁

I think he is more referring to say making Justin Worely run zone read plays for example. A good coach tailors their system to fit the players they have...not the other way around.

Debord was discussing coverages and "the throw game", but I would hope the same applies to the running game.

Tampa Bay has been in big trouble for some time. A new QB coach who had difficulty in getting our QBs playing well will not be the solution to their problems. I think the new OC will be a big asset to our problems on offense. Butch does it again.
