Death by Fanbase

That is exactly my point..........why can't UT hire someone up for any other P5 positions? Maybe it has something to do with unreal expectations and boycotts?

No.

It has everything to do with poor coaching hires for the reason list above. Derek Dooley and Butch Jones sucking had nothing to do with either.

In the Big East he was 28-48, his overall record was 68-67 overall and as an NFL coach 7-9 his first year and 4-12 his second year then fired. That's not a great college coach and as fans we have the right to protest that sloppy hire. Great coach my black ass.

Never did hear if Fuente, Patterson, Peterson or Campbell were offered?

I also understand Mullen going back to Florida where he coached before.

Kinda ironic how many people were ok with this hire were people that oppose UT football.

Even more ironic that some of his “supporters” never attempted to hire him despite calling him a high caliber coach.

We'll see. I think y'all f'd up

Maybe we did, but Tennessee fans created a precedence..........the media is trying to crucify us by saying how "Tennessee fans" were slandering Greg and saying all kinds of stuff without any evidence.......however people bashing Vol fans and the media are the ones who are actually doing that to us.

Vol fans number in the hundreds of thousands.......yet maybe a few hundred.......if that said openly or had signs or did anything.........calling Greg a pedophile enabler.

So the media is taking what a few did......and calling out ALL Vol fans........when the majority simply knew he wasn't "the coach with the highest integrity" and wasn't the coach who "could take us to championships."

You reap what you sow.........or at least what others have sown. It really sucks knowing that we have the most delusional fanbase in college football.

I said it months ago....Chip ain't coming. Gruden ain't coming. If you make a change, make it with a coach in the bag. Fanbase demanded immediate change. The boycott. The Rock.

And since when in this country are you now considered guilty even when you've been cleared? Since Clay Travis said so? Geez people. Schiano was probably as qualified as we were going to get. What coach in their right mind would step into this cesspool, especially given ANY other option?

Freaking heartbreaking. This program was just set back another decade........if we're lucky.

Currie, is that you?

Stop blaming the fans. Elite/great/good coaches don't give a rats arse about a noisy fan base. What they do care about is an incompetent administration controlled by a megalomaniacal booster. They are not stupid. They know the real problem at UT and want no part of it.

You keep blaming the fans if it makes you feel better..
This. X10

As I pointed out numerous times, while the "home run hire" was a crazy dream....

There was a larger than normal list of strong potential candidates who are head coaches that were realistic possibilities.

That doesn't include a potential list of candidates who are coordinators.

And Tennessee did, as others have said, what Tennessee does and went out and found someone on no one's radar. And to make it worse, he was around a situation that at the minimum would put Tennessee on the receiving end of many jokes that no one was in the mood to have to hear.

It was a mind boggling choice. They could have hired a bunch of people and not gotten that reaction.

While your athletic director was working his ass off trying to find the best coach for your job, our athletic director was sitting in the Bahamas after conducting his "exhaustive search" for the one candidate the Haslams would let him hire in exchange for helping build his Volhalla.

This is why we are behind and will remain so. While others do what is best for their athletics programs, UTAD does what the Haslams want them to do.

I envy you. I truly envy you.

Any coach who has a sack has high expectations as well. Sure the ball doesn't bounce your way some years, but you don't get beat 41-0 , 45-7, 50-17, 30-10*, and 42-24 in one freaking year. half of our games were beatdowns in the wrong way. You sure as hell don't lose to your big three rivals by a combine 106-27.... OP you are wrong. Are expectations high? Yes, we are Tennessee. The minute we become a low expectation University is the day I can't be a fan, Because I can't pull for admitted losers. That isn't going to happen though, we have a few left that might be just the grease to get the gears on the Big Orange Combine up and rolling again. Make Tennessee Great Again!

CBJ wouldn't have posted a better record than 4-8 either. Butch is a mediocre head coach, at best, that was bailed out time and time again by Josh Dobbs and Derek Barnett. Anyone that supported that clown is delusional. That is not what Tennessee football should look like.

Our fanbase stood up to the morons that have been ruining Tennessee football for more than a decade now. Trust us, we know ****ty hires when we see them (see Dooley and Butch), and we saved Tennessee from another 4-5 years of sucking ass. I hope VolNation keeps the pressure on and takes back control of the Volunteer football program for good. We need to ensure that the morons in power don't set us back for good.

Get outta here with this weak arse ****, OP.

Just outpay someone else and take their coach. Norvell makes $1.8 million. Take him. This isn’t the end of the world you guys are making it out to be. UT has money to hire anyone.

I’ve read through nearly this entire thread and after absorbing the insults and condescension from the national media I have to say that I’ve never been more proud to be a Vol and apart of this fanbase that stood up and said enough is enough. My message to the UT Admin is to stop peeing on our leg and telling us it’s raining. The media elites and administration establishment hate populist movements like what happened last night because it’s a threat to their power and influence. I say get used to it Currie.

Please, sir, enlighten me on why he's a good coach? I've yet to see you do this. Instead, you bad mouth your fellow Vols every chance you get. If you hate us that much, then why are you claiming to be a Vol?

Well he did do wonders for Rutgers the doormat of college football.
the 2006 season, Schiano's Scarlet Knights raced off to a 9-0 record, highlighted by their November 9 victory over the third-ranked, undefeated Louisville Cardinals. After this game, Rutgers jumped to seventh in the national AP Poll, which was their highest ranking in school history and first Top 25 ranking since 1976.[5] The euphoria from the win and high ranking quickly faded the following week with a loss to Cincinnati, but Scarlet Knights bounced back to finish 11-2 and qualify for the inaugural Texas Bowl.[6] There, they would defeat the Kansas State Wildcats 37–10, capturing their first ever bowl game win in school history.

My God OP stfu and go somewhere else then. Innocent until proven guilty yes but when you are the caretaker of a multimillion dollar business and your employees are a bunch of kids, being associated with the worst thing to hit sports really screams "sure I'll take care of your boy for the next 4 years" when he's in a mom's living room to get her blessings so her son can come here. Surely you aren't this dumb.

No but at the U as DC Schiano coached Ed Reed Jonathan Vilma amongst others who are still in the league...

I worry that someone like Norvell running a decent program right now wouldn’t hop into this hot pile of garbage. This is a disaster, and whether justified or not, our fan base probably scares off some coaches that might be interested. We are very passionate, and that translates to over the top sometimes. Please see Empty Neyland threads for examples. I think our best option is hiring a T Martin on a short contract and hoping for the best. Energize the, players, fans, and hopefully rejuvenate a recruiting class if possible. If it works out then great, and you got him at a good price . If not we try this mess again in 3-4 years. This is where we’re at unfortunately.

It's been a decade of Empty Suit ADs kneeling at the altar of our boosters v. growing a pair and LEADING this program with some conviction and pride. You need to realize, there is no winning to be found in this style of hiring. There is no path back to success to be found from hiring a another mediocre Big East coach.

I would much rather this fanbase take control is send this program in the depths of hell then to watch it slowly sink into the muck amid incompetence and stupidity.

"If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end, as to be worthy of remembrance."
