Death by Fanbase

We sit and wait on our tickets to arrive in the mail. This is the year we finally get them after being on the list for five years. Run out and buy the hottest new gear Nike releases. Sit anxiously waiting on fall practice to start. Awaiting any updates on any new young players that may emerge as future superstars. It’s finally game week! We’ve made our hotel reservation, got everything planned out. Drive all the way across the state, spend hundreds of dollars in the local economy. Hey this may be our year! We go to every home game and support our program. After all we’re invested in this. Support the players, defend the coaches and accept the outcome. Many have done this for decades. But we should just accept this as the norm? We shouldn’t unapprove of a coach that has a checkered past? Where do we get off as fans to not accept what’s been spoon fed to us over a decade? Which is mediocrity. If were ever gonna make a difference the time is now.

You reap what you sow.........or at least what others have sown. It really sucks knowing that we have the most delusional fanbase in college football.

I said it months ago....Chip ain't coming. Gruden ain't coming. If you make a change, make it with a coach in the bag. Fanbase demanded immediate change. The boycott. The Rock.

And since when in this country are you now considered guilty even when you've been cleared? Since Clay Travis said so? Geez people. Schiano was probably as qualified as we were going to get. What coach in their right mind would step into this cesspool, especially given ANY other option?

Freaking heartbreaking. This program was just set back another decade........if we're lucky.

There's a bigger truth than what you think you know. You are behind in understanding what's going on. Let this play out. The fans are instinctively right.

I hope our fanbase empowers other fanbases to do the same thing. We stood up for what we believed in and prevented a hire that would've resulted in Neyland being half empty at best every Saturday next season. Now let's not stop there and get our incompetent AD, and anyone else who thought this was a good idea out of our program.

is schianos name coming up for any other p5 coaching searches? if it's not, why do you think that is?

That is exactly my point..........why can't UT hire someone up for any other P5 positions? Maybe it has something to do with unreal expectations and boycotts?

If you look up SchiaNO's record at Rutgers he had no real success until Miami and Clemson left the conference to go to the ACC. Then he could only sustain double digit wins one year. Not qualified to be HC here. The object is to hire a better coach than you had. Not the same or worse.

The University asked us to support a guy from Louisiana Tech. We did it. The University asked us to pull for a guy from Cincinnati who lost to the guy from Louisiana Tech. We did it. Go lay in traffic if you think bringing in some .500 schmuck from New Jersey University with a big losing record in the Big East, after it lost their good teams, is the answer.

Speak for yourself numbnutz.

Tennessee has hundreds of thousands of fans........how many do you think painted the rock.......how many do you think walked with signs of pedophile stuff?........a few hundred maybe? Yet you and and the media try to lump all Vol fans with what a very few did.

For me and many Vol fans Currie created the problem with Greg.

Currie got on stage and told everyone they were only looking for someone of the highest character. When everyone learned it was Greg we were all shocked, and felt we had all been lied to. No matter what you think of him as a good or bad coach..........we already knew he was considered a douche by players and some coaches in the NFL........and a dirty coach........NOT someone of the highest integrity. Tennessee is just getting past rape lawsuits, and no matter if Greg knew anything or not Tennessee didn't need to go there......just from a perception point of view..........and again most of us never called him a pedophile or pedophile enabler.....we simply wanted NO part of it.

I am proud of Vol fans who stood up and made themselves heard......now certainly a few took things too far.......but usually with any situation that will happen........but that is not our fault.......as hundreds of thousands of fans are NOT the same as the few.

All you guys admonishing those of us that were against hiring Schiano need to know a couple of things. First, many of us were opposed from the outset because it was an underwhelming hire, totally outside the periphery of the available coaches that were said to be in the list. Second, The whole Sandusky connection was a secondary reaction. He wasn’t put on trial by this fan base, we were smart enough to know we didn’t need the headache next month when the media started putting UT on trial for hiring him! Especially in today’s environment. Thirdly, there’s not enough drugs in the world to treat your Stockholm Syndrome. You’re being told what to think by this Admin and some in the media and they’re living rent free in your head. Wake up already.

really? inexplicable? you are 100% correct on the facts of that case as we know them. that doesn't mean that we have to just say "ok, cool"? and it doesn't mean that we should just buy the fact that any real work was done to see how this would go over...i think it's apparent to say whatever work they did do in that arena, wasn't enough.

cause fact is, NO ONE else was hitting him up this off season....even with all the openings.

just us. and per the OSU athletic director, Currie contacted him about 3 weeks ago about Schiano....which is before Jones was fired. so really, how much effort was put in to this search? or was he led by the nostrils to columbus by some very influential people in a place, like say, Cleveland?

either way.........

It was sarcasm.

Don’t forget- the guy from Rutgers lost to the guy from Cincinnati who lost to the guy from Louisiana Tech by a score of 69-38.

Or maybe it's the Haslam family wanting to shove their hire down the booster and fans throat.

It's a power thing and we're sick of it.

You need to do alot of research before I can take your posts even a little serious.

You are by far the minority. So it’s the fans fault? Because they don’t want another unproven guy? And he is UNPROVEN. Just like the last two that took us from greatness to this. But it’s the fans fault for saying not this time. Not to mention he is associated with the absolute worst thing imagineable. Guilty is not the point. It’s too risky. If you can’t see that then you my friend are part of the problem.

As I pointed out numerous times, while the "home run hire" was a crazy dream....

There was a larger than normal list of strong potential candidates who are head coaches that were realistic possibilities.

That doesn't include a potential list of candidates who are coordinators.

And Tennessee did, as others have said, what Tennessee does and went out and found someone on no one's radar. And to make it worse, he was around a situation that at the minimum would put Tennessee on the receiving end of many jokes that no one was in the mood to have to hear.

It was a mind boggling choice. They could have hired a bunch of people and not gotten that reaction.

Geez calm down! he was at best Butch 2.0. Not at all qualified and he has a cloud that hangs over him. To accept him would be like accepting a high school coach that was accused of raping students. He was the worst hire we could have made...just a buddy of the real issue. #haslamhastogo

And why is not wanting another unproven guy with a connection to the most despicable scandal in the history of college football considered unrealistic expectations. Maybe you should raise your expectations a bit. Just an inch or so out of the sewer would be an improvement.

Stop blaming the fans. Elite/great/good coaches don't give a rats arse about a noisy fan base. What they do care about is an incompetent administration controlled by a megalomaniacal booster. They are not stupid. They know the real problem at UT and want no part of it.

You keep blaming the fans if it makes you feel better..

Pretty easy......look at Rutgers record 20 yrs prior and you have your answer. What are you 10? Do you not remember where he took that hapless program?

I’m pretty sure Rugers was .501 team before and .503 with so not greay of a move. Now they are .426 since gone. I’m impressed with those numbers! Get him back.

Wow! Really gonna be upset because the fan base finally got to a level of pissed off that nobody has ever seen? We are sick of having to accept a third tier coach. The fans had the biggest win of the season yesterday. Go away little weak one.
