Yes but all of that has changed with Coach Marshall now...he has made the FF...Martin still hasn't made the tournament...well he hasn't made the real tournament...so your arguement has now become invalid concerning Marshall.

I'm not concerned about what coach Martin has done nor am I defending him. Everyone has to make it to the tourney for the first time at least once, I think he'll do it this year.

I'm talking about you saying Marshall going to the FF was not an accident when his history shows that he's only made it out of the first round once prior to last year. We passed on him when all he was was a coAch who had never made it out of the first round, not to mention a 5 year gap where he didn't go at all. you're making him out to be some super star coach that no one should pass on.

And you still haven't answered my question.

There was no question to ask...or answer. Maybe we should have taken Coach Marshall over Martin...he has a FF...Martin has nothing more than 2 early exits from the Little Brother tournament...one more and I believe you will be discussing a new coach next year...however if Martin coaches at TN for 10 more years and makes 10 NCAA tourneys but no FF he will still have not done what Coach Marshall has done...make a FF...

Martin will stay, win or lose. Money and admin attention will be going to football for 2 more years at least.

Thing is, Marshall didn't have a Final Four when we looked at hiring him. What if we fire Martin and he goes on to make a Final Four? Should we have kept him?

Martin has been on the cusp of a NCAA bid for the last 2 years. Ok he didn't get in...last year may have been questionable and I honestly thought they snuck in when they beat State in the opening round of the SEC. Thing that bothers me the most about Martin is his inability to motivate a team to get in the Dance. Also his pathetic performance against teams in the NIT bothers me. Hey I know it is the little tourney but it is one you concentrate on winning...crap if you are going to play in it at least try to win the thing...it also provides a springboard to the next season. His defeats to MTSU and Mercer proved to me that his players weren't prepared and didn't care...that falls on the coach. These last 2 teams had enough talent to make the NIT FF or win it...they no doubt would have played the bulk of their games in TB...now you can defend Martin all day long but the bottom line is he hasn't proved to me that he has the necessities to either make an NCAA or make a deep run...yet...maybe never.

Ok yes I think making the tourney and losing the first game makes you a helluva lot better coach than some guy who can't make the tourney at all...and I will give you an example that even you will understand...Rick Byrd of Belmont...gets there every year as no better than a 14th seed...loses the 1st round game every year...but he is a terrific coach...and would coach rings around Martin...now does that answer your question...dude?

Yes...because he couldn't do it at Tennessee and that is what you have to base his performance on. Well right now he still has to make the tourney. I don't think his not making the FF is the criteria we judge him on...it is how many NCAA tourneys he makes. Frankly based on what I have seen I think my chances of winning the Powerball are better than his chances of making the FF...

So then why would you want Marshall hired when we were looking for a new coach when from 2008 to 2011 his teams didn't make the tournament? Then in 2013 he goes to the final four?

Because he's so smart that he just KNEW Marshall would make the Final Four, despite not making the tournament, just like he KNOWS Martin will never do it.

Sure is fun getting beat in the first round every year. And for the record, I'm as unhappy with Martin not getting in the tourney as you are, but Gregg Marshall is not who you think he is. He's been passed up by numerous high majors, even after his FF run. The reality is we had to take someone unproven because none of the better coaches wanted anything to do with our situation that pearl left us in with the NCAA.

Heck I would just like to see Martin make it once...now as to the Coach Marshall thing what kind of "expert" are you to judge an NCAA and FF coach? Your arrogance most likely superseeds your intelligence...

People jocking Marshall as some great coach are clueless. It's low hanging fruit for those in the fanbase who don't like Cuonzo. Many probably don't realize we beat Wichita State last season. But they see Marshall made a final four last year from a non bcs school and think he is some hidden gem up and comer in the coaching world. The guy has been a solid coach for years and years but can't get a better gig even though he's interviewed multiple times and been passed over by multiple schools.

There's a reason he has been passed over. He's simply the "it" coach from last season's march madness. His star will fade sooner rather than later.

Where do you get your info?

Marshall has TURNED down many BCS jobs including NC State. He's paid like a BCS coach ($1.7 million), has private jets for recruiting, great facilities and 10,5000 fans every game.

College basketball is devoid of a great team - ESPN

He interviewed here a couple times. Pretty sure USCe has passed on him as well. The guy has been around forever. He's at Wichita State.

To be fair, Wichita is a good program and people love basketball in Kansas. Would be hard to leave
