This is a letter to the fan who is crying, whining and the plain out unrealistic.
At the beginning of the season the "talking heads", the voting coaches both current and past and even people in the "know" all predicted that we would be mid to lower SEC competition.
What did we do? We bought into the hype as the season neared. We wrote posts, blogged, twittered and talked about the improvements of the team before a game was even played. We knew that the team had shortcoming, but even though we knew that we pumped up what we originally thought an optimistic 6-6 team to an 8-5 team, then 9-3 and even rumblings of a 10-2 team. We are victims of our hype.
The team didn't do this to you, the media didn't, we did this on our own.
We knew several things about this upcoming season before a game was played.
1. We have a mid to lower tier QB with head issues
2. Though our WR's servicable, there are no true WR's and injuries have devastated our corp.
3. We have a patchwork OL that couldn't defend the pass rush last year and would need work.
4. Our 1st team O and D though strong could suffer with depth issues.
Obviously there are points that I've missed but for the most part the above fears were warranted, real and exposed. We can all agree that our team has suffered many issues and though we have great starters, injuries both small and large have really slowed the team.
Do not blame the team and do not blame the coaches. We knew that these issues were there but we were blinded by our own fanaticism and passions for the game. We were so ready for a change and believed in the system so wholeheartedly that we missed the point of this year, to insert a system and to rebuild.
So enough is enough. Enough with the crying and whining, enough with the naysayers and negativity, enough with the arm-chair coaching, enough mob calling for Crompton's head...enough. You made the bed, now sleep in it.
I used the word "we" prolifically in this letter because I'm including myself who believed in the possible cindarella team too.
I am and always will be a Tennessee Volunteer. I'll support my team to the very end, even if that means 2-10 because I see, I see the team is improving, I see the coaches teaching, I see the incoming players contributing in an already elite level, I see the flashes of brilliance, I see the great gameplans that only lack the tools to execute. I see.
So with that said I'll be at the game tomorrow, I'll be loud and I'll be proud because this is my team and I support it.
"Rocky top, you'll always be, home sweet home to me"
