I would like to thank you for the three tremendous years you gave to the University.

You have exuded class and humbleness that is rarely seen in today's game.

In a time with players and coaches who are selfish and drama queens, you gave a breath of fresh air. You are what is still good about College Football.

You're hard work and determination are about ready to reap a big reward and it could not happen to a better person.

I will forever be damn proud to call you a Volunteer.

Thanks for every game until the Ole Miss game of this year, and every game thereafter. During those games, you absolutely quit on your team, and were more concerned about getting injured than winning football games.

I certainly can understand this. I might do the same thing if in your position. But, I cannot join in an unbridled lovefest without pointing out the truth.

Other than the games I mentioned, thanks, and good luck.

I've never been more excited about a recruit and can't wait for the next one that I can be equally excited about. Eric Berry wasn't fortunate enough to be at UT with great teams, but he made the most of it. Now go make buck.

Yet he was 2nd on the team in tackles, returned kicks late in the season, and was finishing others' tackles 6 or 7 times out of 10 if he himself didn't make the tackle first.

I would tell you to go look at the film, but you wouldn't know what to look for.

Heck, even Griffin says it in his latest effort. Read it. Berry's play, as I describe it, must be pretty obvious for a doofus like him to recognize it.

Griffin said he looked out of place at times, not that he quit his team. Berry did look out of place on some plays tonight, but there were plenty of plays where he was making things happen. He was flying around the field, doing what he was asked to do. He didn't do it as well as he is capable of last night, but that doesn't mean he quit (particularly for the entire season save one game as you suggest).

Agreed, he is a know-it-all anyway...

I do know more than most, but certainly know more than you.

For the rest of you, I am objective in my comments. I don't tell a player that I "love" him like someone did earlier in this thread. I shouldn't be "banned" because of my opinion.

Ask people who know football. Not people whose only purpose in life is to yell "Go Vols" and criticize anyone who doesn't. If everyone had that attitude, we'd still have Phillip as our head coach.

I didn't say he quit the whole season. I said from the Ole Miss game, and games thereafter.

Reading back myself, saying that "he quit on the team" was not accurate. It is more accurate to say that he didn't give his best effort, like many kids who know they are leaving college at the end of the season and try to avoid injury. Quit, no. But the effort was not there.

BTW, Griffin saying he was "out of position" is just a nicer way of saying what I did.

Then what does that make you by taken anything a Doofus says with more than a grain of salt?

Can't handle the truth.

I've been a Vol fan for almost 50 years. I watched UT transition from the Single Wing, to the T-Formation, under Coach Dickey. My knowledge of the Vols goes back to Mallon Faircloth.

I have the feeling that many of you are much newer to the game; hence, your "love" for a player is built 100% on emotion, and when its all based on emotion there is no room to make a critical or analytical comment about a player.

EB was a great player. Monte helped him make some money by walking him up in the defense this year. He proved to pro scouts that not only could he cover (like he did in his first 2 years), he could play in the box as well, like a John Lynch, Ronnie Lott, or Bob Sanders. Thing is, he has better cover skills than those guys, 2 of which are already or will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Thus, I think very highly of Eric, his ability, and his contributions to Tennessee football. However, that does not mean I cannot point out a flaw when I see one.

Good luck, Eric. I hope to see you, too, in Canton one of these days. And, if you're around some time, tell some of these people that you know where I'm coming from.

I agree. You should be banned because you're an ignorant ass.

This thread is to thank a player we love. You're too stupid to start your own thread. And it makes me wanna puke that you're posting here.

THAT's an opinion worth getting banned for.

I wanna thank you AND Eric.

By my calculations it might be time for you to gallop toward the Bright Light.

You've lost touch with reality by reading your posts.

Sorry, but I disagree. People who get their feathers ruffled because someone (me) dares to express an opinion different than theirs are the ones who have lost touch with reality.

The people who have posted in this thread are the type who--when John Adams writes a column "favorable" to the Vols--post that it was a "great read" or "good column, John." Those same people--when Adams has an opinion that is perceived as negative toward the Vols--call him every harsh name in the book. You see, it doesn't matter whether the column has any insight, or is a good job of writing, the only thing that matters is whether it is favorable toward Tennessee or not.

Don't get me wrong--I don't think Adams is Pulitzer Prize material. However, its pretty sad when opinions are judged not on their merit, but whether or not it agrees with yours.

There has been not one substantive post in response to mine. I have 2 degrees from The University of Tennessee. UT is my school. However, one thing that I was taught at UT is that opinions are to be judged on merit, not on emotion, and not whether it agrees with yours or not.

I don't expect, or want, everyone to agree with my opinion. If I was looking for affirmation only, I would post only opinions that would be emotionally accepted by all. I choose to post what I see as fact. You are free to disagree, and we can have a discussion. However, it is disappointing that most every post that responds to mine is telling me how dumb I am, or how I should be banned, or I am stupid, and the like.

We criticize Alabama boards and Florida boards for being full of posts by mindless sheep who drink the Kool Aid and think everything their team does is great. Yet, when one person disagrees with an assessment here, he is villified. No matter, I will still post my opinions. I am intelligent to know that some will be right, some will be wrong, and some will fall into a shade of grey. I hope that acceptance of that kind of opinion is not too much to ask.

You still don't get it. It has nothing at all to do with your opinion. It is WHERE you chose to speak it.

You have the right to an opinion. I'm just saying your opinion is moronic, tasteless and completely wrong.

And John Adams' next good piece will be his first.
