Deal With It

Yep. There will be no excuses next year. None.

next year is the year that will prove Zo's worth as a coach. He will either show this year was an anomoly or he'll show it was a trend in the right direction. we just have different ideas on which of the two outcomes it will be.

There wasn't anything remarkable about UT's tourney run. He's an average coach as it stands. Considering it's year 6 for him as a coach, it's safe to assume he's about tapped out on potential.

would you like a list of coaches who achieved more after year 6 than they did prior?

There's nothing kind about winning 3 games in 5 days at two different sites. Nobody has ever claimed him to be John Wooden. The man deserves a fair chance to build his foundation for the program without unwarranted criticism. Again, go back to the football forum and play with the rest of the crazies. Tennessee Basketball doesn't need your support.

Unwarranted?

Nobody is John wooden.

Mercer is no joke. Beat Duke if you don't recall. The Michigan game said it all to me. I couldn't believe we almost won that game. That was all heart driven into them by Coach Martin toget back in that game. Michigan is outstanding team.

I was a Cuonzo detractor but he proved to me he can coach but the kids just took a while to buy into his style to play. Once they did it became evident

took 3 years for them to buy in. can't wait for our new players to come in next year!! 2017 NCAA tourney is going to be a blast after Zo gets them to buy in again in year 3!! I'm hoping the play in game that year is held closer to knox.

Or when we're winning we can all just point and laugh at you

Please do...because we've won so much the previous three years. Wasnt you on the fire martin bandwagon? I believe you was. It would be hard to find since you find it necessary to post 500 times a day.

If the program, in the first year of entirely his own roster, does better than this year then you will have every right to laugh.

How confident are you in that outcome?

Better as in a better regular season record?

If Stokes returns....pretty confident.

Beating umass and mercer is not solid evidence of anything except an extraordinarily kind draw. The 2.9 years leading up to it is all the evidence we need. And of course next year when cuonzo goes 1 out of 4 even making the tourney.

Again, you guys have lost your minds on those two wins. Just lost it.

He took a band of castoffs to a second place finish in the SEC his first season (while Tennessee was pegged as a bottom feeder). Half of that season was played without the presence Jarnell Stokes. Let's not forget Maymon wasn't even around last season when we just missed the dance. Some of us are actually intelligent enough to know that their are other variables and factors as to why it took some time for this program to be successful again. Again, don't let facts get in the way of your putrid smear campaign.

The original post I responded to didn't say "support your team". It was saying something far different....all based on the fact he beat umass and mercer.

Our fan base has lost their minds over those two wins. Gonna kill us in the long run. It starts next year, folks.

I am not believing the total gloom and doom. To me, it is not about greatness vs. 5-20 seasons. It is about consistently meeting expectations. Cuonzo is not a bad coach. He has just consistently not quite met my expectations - not counting the latest run, of course.

You're using 2.5+ years as your basis for your stance, they're using a 10 game stretch.

Yes, regular season record. Tourney records are dependent on a lot of fluky things, like favorable/unfavorable draws (we certainly got the former this year).

But Stokes won't come back. He's gone.

Better as in a better regular season record?

If Stokes returns....pretty confident.

Nothing "remarkable" about beating Umass and Mercer. 2.9 years of utter mediocrity then a kind draw and all of a sudden he's john wooden.

You guys are in for a rude awakening when he loses Pearl's recruits. Reality sets in next year. Enjoy it.

You again! The most negative person on any Vol message board, ever, and that is saying something. At least you are consistent. Reading your drivel is always good for a few laughs though, so thanks. :eek:lol:

Kinda of a terrible OP since Martin was in complete control of his staying or going at this point. He's the one that went and interviewed for another job. That's usually not really celebrated by a fanbase, but then again we're definitely unique in how we deal with things.

No one with a lick of sense would count the first year.

But....oh yeah! This is a message board for sports. Sense is not in good supply.

How are we unique, exactly? We expect coaches to perform and when they don't, we don't like it. Some fans aren't swayed by beating umass and mercer, following 2.9 years of mediocrity. It's not insanity.

He wanted to leave. The "pulled his name from the hat" bull is just to save face.

They could have offered him less money then he makes here and he would have left, they're going for Howland.

He speaks the truth. Martin can't help who we got in the tournament and took care of business but there is no denying playing an over seeded umass team and Mercer didn't help

He doesn't come back, still possible.

Gonna be better than the sub .500 season you're acting like we're gonna have
